4 hot new Netflix shows worth binging this weekend (May 15-17)

But the month is only halfway over, and there are still some excellent new TV shows that have landed recently to feast your eyes on, and I've got a few you can watch this weekend listed below. Streaming in the U.S. now, there's a brand new season of an eye-popping video game adaptation, a brand new LA-based crime drama, the resurrection of a chilling Nordic hit, and a lot of hot singles competing for love. 4 Devil May Cry (season 2) Dante and Vergil's twin showdown finally unleashes hell I'm not a gamer, which should also suggest that I have never once played Capcom's insanely popular demon-slaying game, Devil May Cry. But that did not stop me from totally binge-crushing my way through season one of Netflix's stunning animated adaptation of it, which left me wanting more after an epic cliffhanger. Well, the time has finally come—eight new episodes have just arrived. Devil May Cry is an adult animated fantasy series following the adventures of the demon hunter Dante, as he fends off an invasion of Earth from some freaky and vicious creatures trying to cross over from Hell. But Dante also has to contend with the corrupt U.S. government-led military force DARKCOM, which has some nefarious plans of its own, and as we learn at the end of season one, the potential existence of his long-lost demon brother, Virgil. Devil May Cry is a wild, blood-spattering, hellbent series that is highly stylized and gorgeous to watch. It also has a chaotic heavy rock soundtrack. Season one holds strong at 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, while, although early, season two is currently at a perfect 100%. 3 Nemesis An L.A. cop and suave heist master go head to head Writer-producer Courtney A. Kemp isn't yet a household name, but she should be. The creator and executive producer behind STARZ's massively popular Power crime series, and its three spinoffs, is now trying something new and detached from the franchise with Nemesis, her first original series with Netflix. Still playing in the realm of crime, cops, and heists, Nemesis is an L.A.-set action drama with a cat-and-mouse bend not unlike Heat or American Gangster. Detective Isaiah Stiles (Matthew Law) is obsessed with bringing down Coltrane Wilder (Y'lan Noel), a heist mastermind whose crew may have been responsible for the death of Stiles' partner. Kemp, Tani Marole 2 The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek The return of a perfect-score Nordic noir I'm a fan of many of the excellent thrillers, detective series, and dark dramas that come out of Nordic countries like Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Finland. Released five years ago, season one of the Danish thriller series The Chestnut Man freaked audiences out with its story of detectives Naia Thulin (Danica Curcic) and Mark Hess (Mikkel Boe Følsgaard), who were hunting a sadistic serial killer running around Copenhagen, leaving creepy little figurines made of chestnuts and matchsticks as a calling card—the show scored a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. It took a while, but May 7 saw the return of the suspenseful police procedural, named Hide and Seek, a six-episode second season that reunites Thulin and Hess for a new case involving a murdered woman who was stalked by her supposed killer after first being taunted with a creepy Nordic hide-and-seek nursery rhyme. What I love about Nordic series is their often slow pacing and layers of twisting mystery, and while I'm only a few episodes in, so far the fascinating turns are delicious breadcrumbs. 1 Perfect Match (season 4) Netflix's hot reality dating competition returns This one is for the lovers ... of salacious, sexy, spit-swapping, over-the-top reality dating shows that aren't boxed in by the lame PG constraints of network television. Yes, Netflix's steamy, controversial love competition series, Perfect Match, is back for a fourth season, and while I usually leave these sorts of shows to my wife (with random, out-of-context color commentary shouted by me, from the sidelines), I must admit to being slightly drawn in. Don't tell anyone. The premise is the same chaotic one that's kept it alive so many years—hot singles from across Netflix's other reality properties, including Love Is Blind, Love Island, Temptation Island, and Too Hot to Handle, couple up in a swanky Mexican villa and battle through compatibility challenges in the hopes of finding a genuine spark with someone and winning a vacation to continue the romance. Season four spices things up by tapping into new Netflix shows for contestants, including from Squid Game, The Challenge, and Building the Band, and, for the first time, branching outside Netflix with famous contestants from the likes of Bravo's Vanderpump Rules, and Peacock's Love Island franchises. Eight episodes drop in three weekly batches: episodes 1-5 on May 13, two more on May 20, and the finale on May 27.
