And while cozy watches usually bring warm small towns, books, and sweeping romances to mind, sometimes all you really need is a simple story that helps you relax after a long day. Netflix has a few movies that fit that mood particularly well. From coming-of-age stories and soft romcoms, there's plenty to choose from, but these four are my favorites. Here's all you need to know. The Half of It Love gets a little complicated The Half of It puts a different spin on your usual high school romance story. It follows Ellie Chu (Leah Lewis), a quiet, academically gifted student who makes extra money writing essays for her classmates. The story is set in motion when football player Paul Munsky asks her to help him write love letters to Aster Flores, the girl he has a crush on. Ellie agrees, but as she gets to know Aster through the letters and messages she writes on Paul's behalf, she realizes she has feelings for her too, vicariously falling in love with her. The small-town setting and slower pace give The Half of It a soft feel. It is funny in places, a little bittersweet in others, and fleshes out Ellie and Paul's unlikely friendship as much as it follows the love triangle. If your idea of a cozy watch looks slow (with a sweet payoff), The Half of It is a good one to settle into. Cast Leah Lewis Runtime 104minutes Studio(s) Netflix Distributor(s) Netflix Love, Guaranteed Terms and conditions may apply Love, Guaranteed is a lighthearted romantic comedy about Nick, who decides to sue a dating app (Love, Guaranteed) that promises users they'll find love or a guarantee that they get their money back after 1,000 unsuccessful and frustrating dates. He hires Susan, a hardworking, pro bono lawyer, to take on the high-profile case. As they dig into the app's claims and meet some of Nick's mismatched dates, the lawsuit turns into a media spectacle. During the course of the trial, the two slowly start falling for each other, ultimately proving that the app does, in a way, keep its promise. This is a romcom you may find while casually browsing Netflix, but its warm ambience and easygoing story make it a really nice fall watch. It is predictable in the way most comfort movies can be, but that's part of what makes it a nice, casual addition to your watch list. Love, Guaranteed Release Date September 2, 2020 Cast Damon Wayans Jr., Rachael Leigh Cook, Heather Graham, Caitlin Howden, Brendan Taylor, Sebastian Billingsley-Rodriguez, Sean Amsing, Lisa Durupt, Alvin Sanders, Jed Rees, Kandyse McClure, Keisha Haines, Natalie von Rotsburg, Dee Jay Jackson, Colin Foo, Quynh Mi, Nick Fontaine, Morgana Wyllie, Judith Maxie, Milo Shandel, Flossie McKnight, Kiomi Pyke, Jason Burkart, Arthur Corber, Amitai Marmorstein Runtime 91 minutes Director Mark Steven Johnson Writers Hilary Galanoy Producers Dave Jordan, Rachael Leigh Cook, Dan Spilo, Margret H. Huddleston To all the boys I've loved before The secrets are out in the open To All the Boys I've Loved Before has become a staple on Netflix romance lists, and for good reason. Based on Jenny Han's bestselling young adult novel of the same name, the movie follows high school junior Lara Jean Covey (Lana Condor), whose quiet life is turned upside down when the secret letters she wrote to five former crushes somehow get mailed to all of them. One of those letters reaches Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centineo), and the two eventually agree to fake a relationship for their own reasons. Predictably, pretending gets harder once real feelings get involved, turning Lara Jean's carefully private love life into something she can no longer hide behind a stack of unsent letters. There is plenty about the movie that fits comfortably into a fall watch list, from Lara Jean's baking and family scenes to the soft high school romance at its center. And if you end up wanting more, Netflix also has the two sequel films, P.S. I Still Love You and Always and Forever, along with the spin-off series XO, Kitty. Cast Lana Condor, Anna Cathcart, John Corbett, Janel Parrish, Israel Broussard, Noah Centineo Runtime 102 minutes Director Susan Johnson Writers Sofia Alvarez Sequel(s) To All the Boys: Always and Forever, Lara Jean, To All the Boys 2 Franchise(s) To All the Boys Main Genre Romance Budget 18 million Studio(s) Netflix Distributor(s) Netflix The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society A story written between the lines If you want your cozy watch with a little more history behind it, The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society transports you to post-war Britain. Lily James plays Juliet Ashton, a successful writer living in London who unexpectedly begins exchanging letters with Dawsey Adams, a resident of the island of Guernsey and member of a rather unusually named book club. Curious about how society came together during the German occupation of the island, Juliet travels to Guernsey hoping to turn its story into her next book. Instead, she becomes increasingly drawn into the lives of its members and begins uncovering the much more personal story behind the group. There are heavier parts to the film given its wartime history, but the island setting and community make it feel super cozy. Add in the books, handwritten letters, countryside scenery, and a slow-burn romance, and this movie might make it pretty high up on your fall watch list.
