38 Years Later, A Forgotten NES Classic Is Getting A Brand-New Sequel

A forgotten Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) game from over 38 years ago is getting a brand-new sequel in the near future, though some aspects of its design are undergoing a few drastic changes. Although we’re living through an age when brand-new titles are taking advantage of modern hardware, we’re also constantly looking back at classics. The upcoming release of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is an example of this. While this is most definitely a modern game, it’s the third and final part of the FF7 Remake series. Remakes, remasters, and sequels to older games aren’t exactly new, as they’ve been happening for decades now. Take Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, for instance. The duo of games is, arguably, the best remake games ever made, and they were released in 2009, 10 years after the release of the original Pokémon Gold and Silver. This type of behavior isn’t stopping anytime soon, and now we know that Konami is planning to release a sequel to a classic that was originally released on the NES back in 1988. A Konami Classic Is Making A Comeback A classic Konami game called Konami Wai Wai World is making something of a comeback in the near future with the release of Konami Wai Wai World Craft. For reference, the original title from 1988 is an underrated NES platforming game that was only really released in Japan. In Konami Wai Wai World, players controlled Konami Man or Konami Lady (or both, in multiplayer mode) and had to go through several platforming stages, based on Konami IPs, to rescue iconic characters. This includes characters like Goemon, Simon Belmont, and even King Kong. In 1991, Konami released a sequel to this game, called Wai Wai World 2: SOS!! Parsley Jō, for the NES, too. Much like the original, the sequel was only available in Japan. If you’ve never heard of this franchise, that’s why. Now, however, this lesser-known Nintendo franchise is set to make a return with Konami Wai Wai World Craft, which will build on the foundation laid out for it, but with a different goal to pursue. Wai Wai World Craft Is A Game Creation Platform Wai Wai World Craft is a user-generated game-creation platform, not unlike Roblox or Fortnite’s Creative Mode. The idea is to play through different stages created by other users, or perhaps create your own for others to experience. Expect 2D and 3D platformers, shooters, battle royales, and more. Like in the other games, you can control Actors, which are different playable characters. Among them are Bill Rizer from Contra and Simon Belmont from Castlevania, as confirmed by the official Konami website. You can also customize your Actor in Konami Wai Wai World Craft, making them unique for the online multiplayer platform. According to the website, the game will be released for PC (via Steam) and mobile devices (iOS and Android). A release date has yet to be revealed. More details about the title will be announced in the future, as Konami gets ready to bring back this Nintendo Entertainment System classic in a new setting.
