Between cozy romances like Boyfriend on Demand and workplace trysts like See You at Work Tomorrow, 2026 has been quite a packed year for Seo In-guk. Having said that, three years later, one of his strongest, most memorable releases remains Prime Video's Death's Game. Based on the webtoon of the same name, Death's Game is an intriguing blend of fantasy, revenge, and action-thriller elements, making for a truly one-of-a-kind story. And even though the K-drama adaptation differs from the source material in many ways, the series still holds up excellently by itself, thanks mostly to Seo In-guk and Park Seo-dam's strong performances. All that said, Death's Game may finally have its successor, and it's flown under the radar for nearly a decade. Tapas Just Released the Perfect Death's Game Successor Tapas recently welcomed a new dark thriller series named Lovely Death, and it might just be the perfect read for fans of webtoons and K-dramas like Death's Game. Written and illustrated by aeon, Lovely Death was initially released on Lehzin back in 2017, only receiving an official English release in 2020, and as of July 30, 2026, the series has finally made its way to Tapas, where 20 of its 40 chapters are available to read for free through WUF. Lovely Death was also recently adapted into a vertical short drama released on Lehzin Snack, starring Yoon from STAYC. Lovely Death follows a group of friends, namely Kim Yeon, the protagonist, Shin Irim, Woo Inhee, and Nam Yul, who decide to end their lives together at a hostel, only for Death to take away their ability to die. And, in order to relinquish their right to die, the four women set out on a quest to find an unknown individual who has evaded Death for years. From here on out, the series evolves into a thrilling murder mystery as the group investigates a serial killing that took place at the hostel years prior, believing that the one evading death could be the killer themselves. Evidently, Lovely Death bears many immediate similarities to Death's Game, which also sees its protagonist, Choi Yi-jae, come face to face with a personification of death after dying by suicide. Death then punishes him to reincarnate twelve times in a cruel game that forces Yi-jae to contemplate the true weight of life and death. Lovely Death also similarly sees Death take the form of a woman in the series, though her actions aren't quite as cruel. Lovely Death Isn't Your Typical Thriller All that said, there's one way in which Lovely Death easily surpasses Death's Game, and that is its complex, contemplative portrayal of death. While the series may not be as action-packed as Death's Game, save for its climax, Lovely Death is so much more than a murder mystery. As the series evolves, it explores each of the four women's motivations behind wanting to die and their unique, complicated relationships with death itself. The supporting characters in Lovely Death also each have their own distinct relationship with death and loss, with the series offering differing points of view, whether that's from an old woman who's lived past a hundred, someone who was terminally ill as a child, or another who struggles with survivor's guilt. As such, Death itself is presented as quite a complex entity that can be cruel and unreasonable, but also a kind old friend to some. All of this makes Lovely Death arguably much more profound than Death's Game. And while it can be quite a dark, heavy read at times, especially with its commentary on the ethics of euthanasia and themes of suicidal ideation, the series is also periodically broken up by just enough lighthearted moments to balance things out. With only 40 chapters, Lovely Death is compact yet impactful, and although it has gone underappreciated all these years, the series might finally get the attention it deserves now that it's also on Tapas.
