Three one-year-old boys were among 18 people killed when a Russian missile struck a residential building in Pryluky in northern Ukraine during a massive overnight attack, President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Oct. 7. Pryluky, around 150 kilometers (93 miles) east of Kyiv in the Chernihiv region, was among several Ukrainian cities targeted in Russia’s overnight missile and drone barrage. The attack killed at least 24 people nationwide, including four children, and damaged residential buildings and civilian infrastructure. A Russian missile hit a five-story apartment building in Pryluky, causing a large section of the structure to collapse. Emergency crews were deployed to search the rubble for survivors. The State Emergency Service initially reported four people killed and 20 injured, including three children. The death toll later rose to 18, including four children, while 55 people were injured, including seven children. Fifteen people were rescued from the site, including one child. Rescue workers continue to clear the destroyed structure and search for anyone who may still be trapped. The overnight barrage also targeted Kyiv and Kremenchuk. In Kyiv, Russian forces launched ballistic missiles in several waves, with the first salvo arriving shortly after 3 a.m. Two people were killed, while impacts and fires were reported in several districts.
