3 men pose as Delhi cops, gangrape 17-year-old girl; 4th assault case in a week

A 17-year-old girl was gangraped by three men who posed as police personnel in Delhi's Kalkaji area on Monday evening. One of the accused was arrested after a shootout with Delhi Police in the national capital with a manhunt is underway for two others, police said on Tuesday.The accused, identified as Asif, and his accomplices attacked the teenager inside Astha Kunj Park in southeast Delhi's Kalkaji.Police said Asif was intercepted near Amar Colony after a team received information about his movement. He allegedly fired three rounds at the police team despite being asked to surrender. During the exchange, one bullet hit the bulletproof jacket of a Head Constable. The policeman then fired two rounds in self-defence, one of which struck Asif in the right leg.According to police, they received a PCR call reporting the rape was received at around 8.45 pm on Monday. When police reached Astha Kunj Park, they found the girl with her 17-year-old male friend. In her statement, the girl told police that she and her friend had gone to Kalkaji Mandir for darshan before entering Astha Kunj Park. Three men approached them while posing as policemen and separated the girl from her friend before taking her to a secluded area.Police said Asif threatened the girl with a firearm and a knife before raping her. The other two accused raped her subsequently, according to her complaint. The three men then threatened both the girl and her friend. Several teams were formed to trace the accused. A team led by Inspector Rajender Dagar, in-charge of the South-East District Special Staff, received specific information about Asif's movement near DM Office Road in Amar Colony and laid a trap.Following the shootout and arrest, the crime and forensic teams were called to the spot and legal proceedings were initiated.A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Posco) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including provisions relating to aggravated penetrative sexual assault and other offences.Police said further investigation is underway and efforts are continuing to trace the two other accused.FOUR MINOR ASSAULT CASES IN 14 DAYS IN DELHIThe Kalkaji gangrape case is the fourth reported case involving the sexual assault of a minor in Delhi in the past two weeks.On Monday, a six-year-old girl was raped on Deshbandhu Gupta Road. The accused, identified as Ankit, has been arrested.On September 17, a Class 6 girl who had left her home in Sadar Bazaar to buy a pencil and books was held hostage by a tailor at his shop. Police said the accused, identified as Maqsood, tied her hands and legs and raped her. He has been arrested.On September 10, a 17-year-old girl went to meet a friend, who gangraped her along with his friends and murdered her. The teenager was stabbed eight times and her body was found on September 13.
