3 Major Widow’s Bay Season 2 Cast Changes Confirmed By Creator

The horror comedy cemented its status as one of the biggest television breakouts of the year, nabbing 14 victories at its first Emmy Awards ceremony. That includes the award for Outstanding Comedy, in addition to victories for Widow's Bay cast members such as Matthew Rhys, Kate O'Flynn, and Stephen Root. The list of potential winners may grow with the horror dramedy's upcoming episodes, as series creator and showrunner Kate Dippold shared with Decider in a recent red carpet interview at the Emmys. Dippold was asked to offer a preview of what audiences can expect when Widow's Bay season 2 premieres. In the quote below, the showrunner confirms that there will be episodes focused on Bashir, Rosemary, and Dale: I think it's going to... we're going to try to follow the same thing. We're just organically following the fun. So some things will be monster-of-the-week, some things are going to be diving into the bigger story, getting into the lore, you know, and also seeing more point-of-view episodes from characters we haven't seen yet. Like, I think you're going to see a lot more Bashir, a lot more Rosemary and Dale. There is no word yet on when the Apple TV Original might return. However, in recent comments to ScreenRant, a filming window was floated. O'Flynn, who plays the fan-favorite Patricia, mentioned that cameras could begin rolling in March of next year. That hasn't been confirmed, however. But heading into Widow's Bay season 2, it is known that Jeff Hiller is being upgraded to a series regular. Hiller, who plays Dale, is a small-screen MVP and scene-stealer in everything from an early appearance in 30 Rock to an Emmy-winning supporting turn in the heartfelt HBO comedy Somebody Somewhere. Dale has a featured role throughout season 1, culminating in the character's finale freakout. It's in the Widow's Bay finale that Dale finds out about some of the island's dark secrets. He then proceeds to have a not-so-subtle response, hilariously screaming that everyone is doomed. It fits in nicely with his soon-to-be spotlight moment in the horror series. Bashir, played by Kevin Carroll, and Rosemary, played by Dale Dickey, are both already series regulars, but they've had different levels of focus. Bashir gets pulled deeper into the story only in the last few episodes upon learning the doom that the island portends for his family. As for Rosemary, she can be relied upon to deliver a hilarious Widow's Bay line, albeit viewers arguably know the least about her out of all the mains. There's also the tension of Evan (Kingston Rumi Southwick) being tied to the island's curse, which is an unresolved dilemma for the leading Tom Loftis. It will be a good while before Widow's Bay is back with new episodes, but fans will have plenty to discuss in the offseason.
