(File Photo: PTI)Three serving members of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) have resigned amid ongoing student protests over alleged irregularities in examinations, as two rounds of talks between the Jharkhand government and student organisations failed to break the deadlock.JPSC members Dr Ajita Bhattacharya, Dr Anima Hansda and Dr Jamal Ahmed submitted their resignations to the governor.Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar accepted the resignations of the three JPSC members following a recommendation from the state government, according to the Governor's office.The resignations came as the government and protesting JPSC-JSSC aspirants failed to reach an agreement on Sunday. Student organisations said the government had not accepted all their demands and vowed to continue the agitation. The government has agreed to cancel the 14th JPSC examination. However, the students are also demanding action on the JSSC CGL examination and other JSSC-related issues.JMM minister Sudivya Sonu said the government had conceded 98 per cent of the students' demands. However, the students remained adamant about their demand to cancel the CGL examination. Sonu said the state government does not have the authority to cancel the CGL examination because the exam was conducted on the directions of the Jharkhand High Court and the Supreme Court. He also said the government cannot dismiss candidates who were recruited through the CGL examination.The minister said the government could, if required, constitute a committee headed by a retired judge to probe alleged irregularities in the CGL examination.The students, however, have demanded a CBI probe and said the agitation would continue until their demands are addressed. The two rounds of talks between the government and student organisations ended without an agreement.The protesters have now announced a massive march towards the Jharkhand Assembly on August 10. Thousands of students are expected to participate in the march, which will begin at 10 am from the Old Assembly and proceed towards the New Assembly.The students have maintained that the government has not accepted their demands concerning the CGL examination and other JSSC issues, despite the concessions announced during the talks.- EndsPublished On: Aug 9, 2026 18:41 IST
