3 Forgotten MCU Post-Credits Scenes Marvel Needs To Address In Avengers: Doomsday

Anticipation is high for Avengers: Doomsday, which is set to release in theaters this December, and promises to provide a satisfying conclusion to the last seven years of MCU stories. The MCU has had a scattered number of stories in the years since the last Avengers film, Endgame, in 2019. Many have directly related to the multiverse, such as Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness and Spider-Man: No Way Home, while others lacked connection to the overarching story entirely. Some of these projects, whether they were related to the multiverse or not, have been criticized in the years since. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, for example, received intense criticism for its portrayal of classic comic book characters like MODOK and Kang the Conqueror. The MCU has since tried to streamline its overarching story. Thunderbolts*, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day all connect with one another, and all lead directly into the story of the next Avengers movie. Yet, there are still some moments, specifically post credits scenes, that Marvel should address in Doomsday. The Meeting Of Kangs (Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania) One of the biggest criticisms that audiences and critics alike had about Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is related to the primary antagonist of the film. Kang the Conqueror, who had previously made his MCU debut in season 1 of Loki, was positioned as the main villain of Quantumania, and a clear sign of where the franchise was headed. However, Kang’s appearance in Quantumania was met with intense criticism. In particular, fans and critics questioned how a character like Ant-Man, who is relatively low down on the power scale of Marvel heroes, was able to defeat someone who was supposed to be the next Thanos in the MCU. However, the post credits scene showed that the Kang in Quantumania is one of many lurking in the multiverse. An entire stadium full of Kang’s was shown in the post-credits scene, but these events still haven’t been followed up on. More broadly, the absence of Kang as a character in recent years is yet to be addressed, so it feels as if Doomsday has a responsibility to explain these things as the multiverse saga comes to a conclusion . Monica Rambeau Meets Beast (The Marvels) The Fox X-Men team have slowly been integrated into the MCU in the multiverse saga. First was Evan Peters, who appeared to be playing Quicksilver (before being revealed to be an inconsequential character). In the years since, many X-Men actors have reprised their roles, including Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, and more. Kelsey Grammar is another Fox X-Men actor that has appeared in the MCU (and, like Stewart, will do so again in Avengers: Doomsday). Grammar’s first MCU appearance came in 2023s The Marvels, when Monica Rambeau was transported to a different universe, and finds herself in the care of the X-Men. Beast appears on the poster for Doomsday, and is also in the trailers for the movie. Because of this, it seems that Beast will play a relatively substantial role in the new film, which puts added pressure on Doomsday to address what happened to Monica and where she is now. Harry Styles As Starfox (The Eternals) Perhaps one of the oddest MCU post-credits scenes came in 2021s The Eternals. Harry Styles appeared from the shadows to introduce himself as Starfox, a comic book character that some audiences may never have heard of. However, those who are familiar with Starfox will know that he’s the brother of none other than Thanos, the main villain in the Infinity Saga. The effects of Thanos’ actions still remain in the MCU (and were still being talked about in last month’s Brand New Day). Because of this, and because of Starfox’s connection with Thanos, Avengers: Doomsday would be wise to address this scene and explain how it will affect the franchise moving forward.
