3 D&D Subclasses In Arcana Unleashed To Keep An Eye Out For

Several new subclasses are arriving with the Arcana Unleashed expansion for Dungeons and Dragons in September, and a few of them look extremely promising. Arcana Unleashed is the next big expansion to the popular TTRPG, coming in the form of two books as part of the 2026 roadmap for D&D. One of them will be centered around the gameplay expansion, with tons of character options for players to choose from, while the second book, called Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall, will be a level 11-20 adventure module focused on the downfall of the powerful lich Szass Tam. While the adventure module will offer players a new high-level 5.5e adventure that essentially serves as a substitute for Vecna: Eye of Ruin, the gameplay expansion will give players the chance to dive into the arcanum. In total, there are eight confirmed subclasses for Arcana Unleashed, including new and revisited ones. An example of this is the Arcane Archer for D&D 5.5e. Nevertheless, there are some other subclasses that truly stand out among them and may become valuable assets for any party, regardless of whether they fight Szass Tam or not. Warrior of the Mystic Arts - Monk Arguably the mechanically strongest subclass in Arcana Unleashed, the Warrior of the Mystic Arts subclass for Monks lets these traditionally martial characters fully embody arcane powers and all of the wonders that come with it. Based on the latest Unearthed Arcana playtests on D&D Beyond, the Warrior of the Mystic Arts Monk gains access to Wisdom-scaling spellcasting. The cantrips and spells will stem from the Sorcerer spell list. Because of this, Monks will now get access to tons of remarkable spells, including Fireball in Dungeons and Dragons. In addition to that, spellcasting will synergize with the Monk’s Focus feature. With the Mystic Focus feature unlocked at level 6, Warriors of the Mystic Arts can use spell slots to recover expended Focus Points and vice versa. This allows them to adapt to the situation on the spot. The level 6 feat, Mystic Fighting Style, also allows them to replace one of their attacks with a Sorcerer cantrip with a casting time of an action. This upcoming new subclass in D&D also gives Monks Advantage to maintain Concentration when they expend a Focus Point to use Flurry of Blows, Patient Defense, or Step of the Wind. Lastly, at level 17, they gain Improved Mystic Fighting Style, which lets them replace two attacks with a level 1 or 2 Sorcerer spell. This has proven to be a balanced subclass that works better than several of the magically inclined Monk subclasses available so far. Vestige Patron - Warlock The Vestige Patron subclass for Warlock in D&D is also a remarkable new addition to the TTRPG, based on the same D&D Beyond playtests. The main thing about this subclass is being able to use a Vestige Companion, which is precisely who you made your pact with. The Vestige Companion can be a Celestial, a Fiend, or an Undead, and it takes its action during your turn in combat, much like a familiar. However, this Vestige Companion grows stronger as you grow stronger, and its usefulness scales along with you. The Vestige also has a Divine Power it can use once per day, and its effect depends on what type of creature it is. At level 6, it can regain its Divine Power during a Short or Long Rest, as well as when you use Magical Cunning to recover spell slots. At level 10, the Aura of Power feature allows you to emit an aura that grants you resistances and immunities, as well as the ability to continue standing when you drop to 0 Hit Points. The character gains access to Transmutation spells for free, but most importantly, it allows the Wizard to change themselves for a variety of situations. The Wizard can gain Darkvision, extra Speed, and certain Resistances with a Transmuter’s Stone as early as level 3. The Wondrous Alteration feat also gives them Alter Self for free, as well as the ability to Dash underwater, Advantage on Deception checks, the ability to deal extra damage, and Advantage to maintain Concentration. One of the coolest features in this class is unlocked at level 6: Empowered Transmutation. With it, when you cast a Transmutation spell that doesn’t deal damage using a spell slot, you can cast it as if it were using one spell slot above the slot expended. Effectively, you can upcast Transmutation spells for free. The Transmuter subclass for Wizards is all about transformation, so you obviously get access to a free Polymorph cast per day, too. This subclass is great for a variety of different situations, be they combat-related or not. Of course, all of this information stems from playtests, so the final version may be different, but these are the Dungeons and Dragons subclasses you should be looking out for when Arcana Unleashed is released.
