Even James Marsden—yes, that same James Marsden from X-Men and The Notebook—shows up to play a parody of himself. The documentary-style comedy is presented through the eyes of Gladden, who ponders whether he's been summoned to the weirdest case in America. The show falls apart if Gladden isn't so likable. Jury Duty is not as funny as The Office, but it's also not as ridiculous as Impractical Jokers. It sits somewhere in the middle, which is frankly a good place to be. Jury Duty is not a mean show; you're rooting for Gladden to "win." The same feel-good vibes carried over to season 2, which followed Anthony Norman at a company retreat. Jury Duty has received several Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for Marsden. 2 House Dr. Gregory House reporting for duty Remember when broadcast television mattered? I do! Don't get me wrong, there are still shows like Marshals and Tracker, but those are few and far between. In the mid-2000s, broadcast TV still had water-cooler shows that dominated pop culture. House became one of those shows on Fox. Hugh Laurie stars as Dr. Gregory House, the head of Diagnostic Medicine at the fictional Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. House, who walks with a cane, believes in brutal honesty and often speaks with no filter. He's a narcissist with a twisted sense of humor, but he also happens to be brilliant. House is partly inspired by Sherlock Holmes. When the hospital can't figure out what's wrong with a patient, they typically send them to House and his colleagues, who include Dr. James Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard), Dr. Eric Foreman (Omar Epps), and Dr. Robert Chase (Jesse Spencer). House is a medical procedural that implements the "case of the week" format, meaning you don't necessarily need to watch the episodes to understand what's going on. House's unconventional tactics as a doctor and the unusual cases he solves are what make this show stand out from other medical dramas. The reason to keep coming back is Laurie, who does some of the best deadpan performances you'll see on TV. During its run, House won an Emmy for writing and directing. House Release Date 2004 - 2012-00-00 1 Reacher When Jack Reacher strolls into town, stay out of his way Amazon has hit a home run with Reacher, the television adaptation of the Jack Reacher novels. With all due respect to Tom Cruise, who played Jack Reacher in the movies, he was too small to play the character. Alan Ritchson, who stands at six-foot-three and weighs 240 pounds, is the more inspired casting choice, as his physical appearance more closely resembles the character described in the books. In season 4, Reacher (Ritchson) finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. While on the subway, Reacher notices a woman behaving suspiciously, so he walks over to check on her. The woman pulls out a gun, but something is clearly wrong. Before Reacher can intervene, the woman takes her own life. Knowing Reacher, he won't walk away from this case, so he teams up with Detective Tamara Green (Sydelle Noel) to figure out how the woman got into that situation. For some shows, predictability is the enemy. I don't feel that way with Reacher. I want Ritchson's character to say some witty one-liners, knock some guys out, and save the day. It's extremely satisfying television that I hope returns for more seasons. Judging by its ratings, the show isn't going anywhere, as Reacher will return for season 5. All four seasons of Reacher are 90% or higher on Rotten Tomatoes.
