If you're looking for some great movie picks for this weekend on Peacock, look no further than these three flicks that are streaming right now. With NBC and Universal backing it, Peacock has risen through the ranks of the modern streaming landscape to become one of the top dogs. In only a few years, it has managed to rival larger platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. Though it's often used primarily as a landing spot for NBC's network TV shows, there are quite a few movies on Peacock as well. Unlike other platforms which pull films from everywhere, the movies on Peacock usually come from the NBC/Universal umbrella. While this doesn't guarantee that they're all good, most of the movies on Peacock are passable at worst and excellent at best. Another thing that elevates Peacock over many of its competitors is the inclusion of new movies fresh from theaters. After they finish their theatrical runs, a lot of Universal's biggest flicks come straight to Peacock first before they go anywhere else. Naturally, if a movie is a smash-hit in the cinema, that popularity carries over to streaming on Peacock. Even though the streaming platform is significantly smaller than the aforementioned Netflix or Prime Video, it can still be tough to actually pick something to watch. This problem is exacerbated by the fact that new things are coming to the catalog every month. This weekend's movie picks seek to rectify that problem, and serve up a trio of films that cover all the bases. 3 Galaxy Quest (1999) Starting out this weekend's list is a blast from the past. Galaxy Quest concerns the cast of a long-canceled sci-fi TV show, who are beamed into space for a real intergalactic adventure. A loving send-up to shows like Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica, Galaxy Quest is a clever parody with a real passion for what it's spoofing. Tim Allen and Sigourney Weaver headline the cast, and the rest of the ensemble is a litany of brilliant character actors. Galaxy Quest is hilarious on the surface, but it's even funnier for those who understand fandom culture. It's currently streaming on Peacock, and the cult classic is begging for a revisit. 2 M3GAN (2022) For those looking for light thrills that blur the line between horror and comedy, M3GAN is the perfect weekend pick. A toy developer tests an experimental AI doll on her orphaned niece, and the titular creation gets a bit too attached to her playmate. M3GAN is an intentionally schlocky chiller that is just self-aware enough to embrace its tongue-in-cheek humor. It's ideal for scaredy-cats and horror hounds alike, which is rare in the modern movie landscape. It's also endlessly rewatchable, which has made it a popular choice on streaming since its debut back in 2022. The sequel isn't quite as good, but they make for a fun double feature when not taken too seriously. Peacock subscribers have a lot of great horror to choose from, but M3GAN is a gem worth seeing first. 1 The Secret Life Of Pets (2016) The Secret Life of Pets is usually hovering near the top of Peacock's movie charts month after month, and for good reason. The plot concerns a possessive pooch who hates his owner's new dog. When the duo get separated from their master, they go on a big city adventure to find their way back home. Scoring nearly $900 million at the box office, the movie is another smash for Illumination. The eye-catching visuals and childish humor are perfect for younger viewers, but it's a charming movie for adults too. It's a throwback to classic children's films from a bygone era, and squeezes every laugh from its concept as possible. Of all the Illumination movies available on Peacock, The Secret Life of Pets has the most staying power.
