Sign in to your ScreenRant account HBO Max subscribers will find movies on the streaming service this weekend that either prepare for Halloween season or will make viewers' blood boil in other ways. On last weekend's HBO Max movie recommendations, I talked about movies like Milly Alcock's Supergirl in the James Gunn DC Universe, the sci-fi horror Backrooms, and the Denis Villeneuve masterpiece space opera Dune. Out of those exciting options, two movies not only remain timely recommendations on the streaming service, but they are leading the streamer nationwide. At the time of writing, Backrooms stands as the most-watched movie on HBO Max in the United States, while Supergirl is the 2nd most popular film on the streamer nationwide. As such, they are dominating HBO Max's chart. This weekend's HBO Max list is all about following suit with the latest trends on the streaming service that subscribers should not miss out on. That said, there is a Halloween movie twist to the list, with two of our HBO Max entries in the first weekend of October being horror movies. However, each of those comes with a completely different tone. REVEAL MY SCORE → The Body Count Your Survival Score 💀 / 8 Did you survive the horror quiz? ↻ SURVIVE AGAIN This allows the list to remain fresh for viewers with different preferences in horror and just in general. There is also no superhero movie among the new recommendations. That said, those looking for similar thrills will find them in the star-studded action movie led by an actor who was previously in multiple Marvel movies. These are the HBO Max movie recommendations: 3 Truth or Dare (2018) The first horror movie on the list is Truth or Dare, which is currently the 10th most-watched movie on HBO Max in the United States. Truth or Dare is a good horror pick for teenagers and young adults, as its cast stars Lucy Hale (Pretty Little Liars), Tyler Posey (Teen Wolf), Violett Beane (The Flash), and more. The Blumhouse horror movie is pretty straightforward. As a group of college friends come together to party during spring break in Mexico, they decide to play a game of truth or dare. However, as they come to learn, if they do not follow the rules of the game, there are gruesome consequences waiting. It is a horror thriller perfect for a rainy night. 2 Beetlejuice (1988) Beetlejuice, the second horror movie on the list, could not be farther away from Truth or Dare in tone, even though both come from the same general genre. That is because Beetlejuice plays to Michael Keaton's impeccable comedic timing, as the character is called upon to scare away the new owners of the Maitlands' home, as the recently-deceased ghosts are bound to their house. Beetlejuice holds a high 83% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 121 reviews. Besides Keaton, the horror comedy also features names like Winona Ryder, Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Catherine O'Hara, and more. Beetlejuice is a horror classic, perfect for the start of the Halloween season, and after finishing it, HBO Max subscribers can book a double feature with the 2024 sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which director Tim Burton returned to helm. 1 Fuze (2026) Finally, the only non-horror movie on the list is Fuze. The 2026 action thriller is a star-studded affair. Those watching Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen season 2 on Netflix might enjoy knowing that Theo James is one of the movie's main players. He is joined by Marvel Cinematic Universe's Quicksilver and Sony's Spider-Man Universe Kraven the Hunter actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who leads the film as Major Will Tranter. Fuze's cast also includes names like the James Cameron Avatar franchise star Sam Worthington and Loki's Gugu Mbatha-Raw. Fuze is currently the 3rd most-watched movie on HBO Max in the United States. The R-rated action thriller focuses on a bank heist while London has been evacuated to remove an unexploded World War II bomb. Its story is fresh, the action kinetic, and the cast magnetic. Fuze ends the weekend on HBO Max with plenty of thrills.
