Sign in to your ScreenRant account Disney+ subscribers have another wave of movies that are perfectly suited for the spooky season as the month of Halloween continues, and they come in very different tones and shapes. On last weekend's Disney+ movie recommendations, I had our first Halloween lineup with the new special Spidey and the Avengers: Halloween Team-Up!, the heartwarming Casper, and the classic genre movie Ghostbusters. Out of those projects, only Ghostbusters is not trending on the streaming service. At the time of writing, Casper stands as the 4th most-watched movie on Disney+ in the United States. Right above it, in 3rd, is the Spidey and the Avengers: Halloween Team-Up! special. There are two films above them on the chart, with one of those being Toy Story 5, at 1st. As for the other, Disney+ subscribers will find it on the list. The movie is a fantasy release that is all about magic and makes for the perfect Halloween watch party. It also started a franchise. In fact, I looked into franchises in two different ways for this weekend's Disney+ movie recommendations. Besides that trending movie, there is another franchise starter on the list. Higheror Lower? Choose the movie with the higher Rotten Tomatoes score. This one comes in animated form and features quite a few major stars. Joining them will be one of the first big projects from Florence Pugh. The actress is on a hot run in 2026, reprising her beloved role as Yelena Belova in one of Marvel Studios' best movies, Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Here are the best movies to watch on Disney+ this weekend: 3 Hocus Pocus (1993) First up is Hocus Pocus, which just so happens to be the 2nd most-watched movie on Disney+ in the US right now. The film is a fantasy and Halloween classic. Released in 1993, Hocus Pocus tells the story of three sister witches who return to life after 300 years on Halloween night right in the middle of Salem. While they are evil, the witches are also hilarious, leading to many fun moments. This is a darker movie for kids, but one that they can watch. Hocus Pocus explores how three kids can put an end to the witches' return. The witches are played by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy. All three returned for the 2022 sequel Hocus Pocus 2, where the Sanderson sisters are once again accidentally resurrected, coming back for revenge. 2 Hotel Transylvania (2012) The 2nd movie on the list is also trending on the streaming service, as the animated Hotel Transylvania is Disney+'s 5th most-watched movie in the United States. The 2012 horror comedy is for those looking to get their fill of monsters this Halloween, but not necessarily any chills alongside them. It is a horror comedy that instead focuses on family first and foremost. 2012's Hotel Transylvania features the arrival of a human, Jonathan (Andy Samberg), at Dracula's (Adam Sandler) exclusive hotel for monsters to relax away from humans. This leads to all sorts of hijinks as the vampire tries to keep the human hidden, all while his daughter, Mavis (Selena Gomez), falls in love with Johnny. Hotel Transylvania is a sweet and funny movie with plenty of exciting monster designs, perfect for the whole family during the Halloween season. 1 Midsommar (2019) Finally, Florence Pugh's Midsommar is the offering on the list for those who are into frightening horror movies. Leave this one for the adults. Midsommar is available through Hulu on Disney+, having arrived recently, on October 3. The horror movie comes with a high 83% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 413 reviews. Midsommar was directed by auteur Ari Aster, known for movies like Hereditary, Beau Is Afraid, and Eddington. Midsommar follows Pugh's Dani, who has had to deal with her sister recently killing their parents in a murder-suicide, and her boyfriend Christian (Jack Reynor), who are on the verge of breaking up when they go with friends to a once-in-90-years midsummer festival in Sweden. There, an eerie atmosphere slowly morphs into a nightmare, making for an intense final movie on Disney+ this weekend.
