29 Years Later, The Original Fallout Is Getting A Remake

Sign in to your ScreenRant account The original Fallout games are obviously very different to what the series is known for in 2026, but Interplay Entertainment's creation is more than deserving of its place in gaming history. They laid out much of the lore that has become so recognizable today, and the Prime Video adaptation has brought many of the themes and storylines back to prominence. If you're a fan of the more recent games for the roleplaying and narrative elements, they're well worth trying out, though be warned it's an entirely changed playing experience. That said, there's a project on the way that aims to bring back the first Fallout game in a much more recognizable form, meaning no more isometric camera for those who find it jarring. Over on YouTube, the channel FalloutMachine has been logging their development progress with short daily videos, as they attempt to rebuild the original Fallout inside Fallout: New Vegas. It's a hugely ambitious project that recently passed day 69, and everything seems to be coming along quite nicely, with a small community cropping up to track progress. There's no doubt that Fallout: New Vegas has some of the most addictive gameplay in the series to date, and it's also relatively easy to mod, making it the perfect breeding ground for an overhaul mod like this one. There is now a Discord available to join as well, where you can keep up to date with the latest iterations and interact with other like-minded fans. Fan projects like the one above have been a real light in difficult times for those who follow the single-player Fallout series closely. There hasn't been a new official release in that regard since 2015's Fallout 4, other than an Anniversary Edition that went down much more poorly than the developer were expecting. Todd Howard has recently confirmed that he is aware of fan concerns around the lack of new releases, but that comes as scant consolation to those who just want to play. The only potential green shoots of hope come via new Xbox head Asha Sharma, who has reportedlt placed Obsidian Entertainment in charge of producing a new game in the meantime. At the same time, rumors continue to swirl that a remake or remaster of Fallout 3 is on the way, with many putting the launch of season three of the Prime Video show as the most likely place for a launch. Whether that means a shadow drop or something else remains to be seen, but let's just hope we get some kind of new Fallout game soon.
