26 Years Later, A Near-Perfect PlayStation 1 Classic Is Returning On PS5

A beloved and near-perfect PlayStation 1 classic is officially returning with a release on PlayStation 5, 26 years after its original release in 2000. A lot of older games are making their way onto the PS5 ecosystem as of late. Earlier this year, we got the PS1 classic Geppy-X on PlayStation 5, for instance. The remaster of the title is a courtesy of studio Bliss Brain. Of course, this is just one example. Before that, six classic Rugrats games were added to the modern PlayStation ecosystem, too, via a release by Limited Run Games. Now, another classic is making its way onto PlayStation 5 consoles, though not in the form of a remaster, remake, or re-release, at least not in the traditional sense. As was reported by Gaming Bible, four games are joining the PlayStation Plus catalog in the near future, and while some of them are more recent releases, one of them is a PS1 classic released back in 2000, which will please fans of the series. The title will arrive on PS Plus this year. As seen in the report, Dino Crisis 2 is making its way onto the catalog as part of the new additions to PS Plus. The classic PlayStation 1 game will be playable on both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles for free, though the benefit is limited exclusively to members of the Premium tier. This means that if you’re a member of the Essential or Extra tiers and want to play it, you’ll need to upgrade your subscription to gain free access to the game. The information was officially confirmed during the latest State of Play event in September, which highlighted the release of Dino Crisis 2 on PS Plus. The exact release date for the game on the subscription service has not yet been revealed, but according to Sony, we can expect to play it via PS Plus Premium at some point in 2026. Mega Man X: Command Mission was confirmed to join the catalog in September, while the original Ratchet & Clank and Mycopunk were also announced for later this year. The release of Dino Crisis 2 on PS5 follows the addition of the original Dino Crisis to PlayStation Plus a few years ago. Now, players will be able to play both main entries in the survival horror series on modern platforms, and if they’re members of the Premium tier, this will all come for free. If you’re not familiar with Capcom’s franchise, imagine Resident Evil, but with dinosaurs instead of zombies. Of course, there are some other differences, but if you’re a fan of classic Resident Evil titles, you’ll most likely enjoy the two Dino Crisis games. While there has been a lot of controversy surrounding PlayStation lately, a lot of which is due to the fact that the company announced the end of the production of physical game discs moving forward, its services continue to provide. It’s great to be able to revisit PlayStation 1 classics, like Dino Crisis 2, on PlayStation 5, and we can expect more moving forward.
