24 Meets Money Heist In Apple TV's New 8-Part Crime Series

24 Meets Money Heist In Apple TV's New 8-Part Crime Series

Published Aug 29, 2026, 9:00 PM EDT Laura Hurley has been writing about the entertainment industry for more than twelve years, after a decade as a content producer and editor at CinemaBlend after writing for WhatCulture and Examiner. Attending events like SCAD TVfest and San Diego Comic-Con over the course of her career, she has been immersed in the world of network, streaming, and cable TV. Apple TV is entering the heist game before the end of the year, with a drama that combines the most thrilling elements of Fox's 24 with what worked so well for Netflix's Money Heist. Add on the star power with two leading men from major movie franchises, and 12 12 12 already has a lot going for it. Fortunately, the wait to see the new series in the 2026 TV premiere schedule won't last too much longer. 12 12 12 stars Anthony Mackie (Captain America: Brave New World) as a disgraced FBI agent, who may be able to find redemption if he can win a cat-and-mouse game against an American career criminal, played by Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades of Grey). It's already safe to say that the Apple TV drama is taking Mackie well out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and definitely veering Dornan away from the Fifty Shades franchise. Also featuring Jack Kesy (Claws), Kali Reis (True Detective), Agathe Rousselle (A Second Life), José Garcia (Fox Hunt), and Sallie Harmsen (Sphinx), 12 12 12 will premiere on Apple TV on Friday, November 13. The streamer is taking the same approach that it has for many originals when it comes to weekly releases; the first two episodes will debut on November 13, followed by one episode each week afterwards. The obvious choice for a premiere date would have been December 12, or at least a total count of 12 episodes, but 12 12 12 only received an order for an eight-episode season. 12 12 12 Puts A New Timeline Spin On The Heist Genre Image via Apple TV 12 12 12 will stand out among heist dramas by virtue of the ticking clock for Mackie's FBI agent to catch Dornan's master thief. This isn't quite a situation like 24, with one episode standing in for one hour of Jack Bauer's life. The perspective seems to be split between the two leads, rather than focused on the criminals, like on Money Heist. In the show preview from Apple TV, Mackie's character says: A high-asset robbery. Professionally conceived. It's twelve months in planning, twelve hours in execution. Dornan's character adds that "A bank robber who's not caught within 12 days is not caught at all." It remains to be seen whether 12 12 12 will have a straightforward approach to how the heist unfolds across three different timelines, but the first season only runs for eight episodes. No matter how the format plays out, it won't be one hour per episode like 24 or The Pitt. The chase between the two characters will center on a bank vault hidden deep under the streets of Zurich in Switzerland. Apple TV Is Rapidly Becoming One Of The Best Platforms For Original Shows Apple TV The timing could hardly be better for Apple TV to premiere a star-studded new show in November. Ted Lasso's fourth season will wrap in early October, and the highly-anticipated sixth season of Slow Horses will end in late October. 12 12 12 could be the ideal show for Apple TV to continue its hot streak of TV in 2026. 12 12 12 can also continue to prove that Apple TV has a knack for success across many genres, despite having a much smaller library of originals when compared to streaming services like Netflix and Prime Video. The same platform that delivered hit comedies like Ted Lasso and Shrinking has also produced some of the best sci-fi shows of the last decade, including For All Mankind, Severance, and Pluribus. The Morning Show has been a hit drama going back to 2019, whereas Black Bird and Smoke prove that Apple TV can be the place to find some of television's best crime dramas. In fact, Apple earned the most nominations out of any network for the upcoming Emmy Awards in the comedy and drama categories. Show Genre Total Nominations Widow's Bay Comedy 19 Pluribus Drama 18 Shrinking Comedy 10 Slow Horses Drama 9 Margo's Got Money Troubles Comedy 8 Palm Royale Comedy 8 Murderbot Comedy 3 Mr. Scorsese Documentary 3 The Reluctant Traveler with Eugene Levy Nonfiction 2 Prehistoric Planet: Ice Age Documentary 2 Your Friends & Neighbors Drama 1 The Morning Show Drama 1 Foundation Science Fiction 1 Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Science Fiction 1 Smoke Drama 1 "A Critter Carol" and "I'm Not Remarkable" Commercial 1 It's too early to say how successful 12 12 12 will be with critics (and viewers) compared to all the series that have already made Apple TV one of the best streaming services available today, but the drama seems to have a recipe for success. Considering the success of Slow Horses, Apple TV could be the ideal platform12 12 12 as a heist thriller. Network Apple TV Directors Kari Skogland Creator(s) Dudi Appleton, Jim Keeble
