₹24 lakh goes missing from ATM cash-loading van in Chennai

Representative image | Photo Credit: Getty Images The police have launched an investigation after ₹24 lakh went missing from a cash-loading van carrying money for HDFC Bank ATMs.Police sources said Cash Secure System (CSS), a company contracted to replenish HDFC Bank ATMs, dispatched a van from the bank’s Velachery branch on Friday night carrying ₹4.69 crore packed in 105 cash boxes.The cash-loading team replenished 14 ATMs before reaching the 15th ATM on Paper Mills Road. While preparing to load cash into the machine, the employees discovered that three cash boxes were missing.The team retraced the route taken by the van and found two empty cash boxes on the Murasoli Maran Bridge in Perambur. The police suspect the missing boxes had contained ₹24 lakh and slipped out of the vehicle onto the road. The cash spread all over the road and could have been taken away by other road users, according to the police. Following a complaint, the ICF police registered a case and have begun an investigation.
