Continue to check back with us as we will be adding more information as it becomes available.A beloved fictional family is planning a very real reunion. The legendary Diane Keaton was among the headliners when The Family Stone released back in 2005, going on to gross $92 million on a budget of $18 million. The ensemble comedy-drama about the travails of a New England family during a fraught holiday is finally getting a long-awaited sequel, to be titled The Families Stone, which is set to reassemble much of the original film’s cast, for a new story set two decades after the first film. The Family Stone’s reunion movie will indeed be a festive and cozy affair, as the sequel has brought aboard 10 of the stars who made up the first film’s memorable cast. Claire Danes is back in the fold as Julie Morton, along with Rachel McAdams as Amy Stone, Dermot Mulroney as Everett Stone, Craig T. Nelson as Kelly Stone, Sarah Jessica Parker as Meredith Morton, Luke Wilson as Ben Stone, Tyrone Giordano as Thad Stone, Elizabeth Reaser as Susannah Stone, Paul Schneider as Brad Stevenson, and Brian White as Patrick Thomas (via THR). “Twenty years after their mother’s passing, the Stone family reunites for Christmas only to face the season’s biggest surprise: their father has unexpectedly invited the woman he’s fallen in love with to meet the family,” reads the synopsis for The Families Stone. Keaton’s Sybil Stone passed away from breast cancer in the original film, and the star herself sadly passed in 2025. Tom Bezucha returns to both write and direct the sequel to his 2005 cult hit. Just-confirmed returning Family Stone star Mulroney lightly teased the follow-up's story in a May 2026 interview, telling The Tangle podcast, “You won't believe how s--- went down the last 20 years for the Stones.” Ben Stone actor Wilson also opened up about the project, saying in an August 2026 chat with ET, “Tom Bezucha is a great writer and a great director, and I read the script, and it’s really funny, and it’s so nice that everybody wants to work together again. After the death of Diane Keaton, it’ll be even more meaningful because she was so great to be around on the first one.”
