2026’s Best Selling Game 'Meccha Chameleon' Is Coming to Consoles

During today's Nintendo Direct, the big N announced that Meccha Chameleon will be out on its system later today. Until now, the popular game has been available only on Steam, where it has racked up over 20 million sales in just a few months. For those somehow unfamiliar, Meccha Chameleon is a prop-hunt-style game with a twist. Players attempt to hide themselves in a level by using paint tools to blend in with the environment while a hunter attempts to track them down. If the hunter locates a hiding player, they can "tag" them with a paint gun, recruiting them to their team. The game was released on June 9, 2026, by the development duo lemorion_1224 and Haganeiro, who created the game in just two months. The game peaked at 340,000 concurrent players on Steam. According to Rhy Elliot of Alinea Analytics, Meccha Chameleon had already outsold every other game released in 2026 within its first month: it sold 12.6 copies in the by early July, with its closest competitors being FC26 at 9.1 million, Resident Evil Requiem at 7.5 million, Forza Horizon 6 at 7.4 million, Arc Raiders at 7.4 million, and Slay the Spire 2 at 7 million. Meccha Chameleon is the latest "friendslop" sensation, a multiplayer game meant to be played with friends. Other recent hits in the genre include the comical How to Fish, which, despite its name, does not teach you how to fish, and what may be 2026's best game, Big Walk. While it hasn't been announced yet, Meccha Chameleon could well release on PlayStation and Xbox in the near future; if it can run on a handheld, it could arrive on those platforms as well.
