The 2026 Maryland high school football season saw no change again amongst the Top 5 teams in the state. Continuing to top them is the defending Overtime Nationals champion Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy, which didn’t get a chance to take the field due to a cancellation. The mid-point of the season has seen little changes within the rankings. St. Frances Academy Panthers (4-0) The defending Overtime Nationals champion Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy Panthers was supposed to host King Drew Medical Magnet (3-2) last week, but the California team wasn’t able to make the trip due to funding. Coming off a 12-1 season a year ago and taking home the first ever Overtime Nationals title, St. Frances Academy is hoping lightning can strike twice as they have reloaded their roster and in some ways, could be better than they were a year ago. Next up for the Panthers is a road matchup with Legacy School of Sports Sciences of Texas. Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha Catholic have won two in a row since their first loss of the season and latest win is a 28-12 victory over Riverdale Baptist. The Stags have one of Maryland’s top edge rushers a part of their front seven 2027 four-star James Pace and 2028 four-star defensive lineman Nikolas Stevens. Among the others that will be expected to contribute this fall for DeMatha Catholic are three-star defensive lineman Sean Saint Fleur, three-star running back Terrance Grant and three-star safety Knyair Crumb. The Stags will be at home against Mt. Zion Prep. 3. Archbishop Spalding Cavaliers (3-2) The defending Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) Class A state champions have now won three straight games when they soundly defeated Gilman, 32-0, last Friday night. The Cavaliers are in their first Maryland high school football season under the watch of former Navy defensive assistant/cornerbacks coach R.B. Green, who took over for Kyle Schmitt, who left the Cavaliers to become the tight ends coach for his alma mater, the University of Maryland. Among the key offensive players right now are quarterback Brian Snowden, Jr. (1,685 yards, 22 touchdowns in 2025), interior offensive lineman Bryce Smalls, 2028 wide receiver Kam Miller and Maryland commitment Myles McAfee. The Cavaliers return home when they face Concordia Prep this week. 4. Good Counsel Falcons (2-3) Good Counsel lost their third game of the season when they fell, 35-6, to Malvern Prep of Pennsylvania. The Falcons ended with a 6-5 record last 2025 Maryland high school football season and played against some of the best teams in the DMV region. The defensive unit took a big hit when 2027 four-star EDGE Anthony Sweeney decided to transfer to Overtime Nationals champion Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy. The strength of the team will be on the offensive line led by 2028 4-star IOL Josiah Eney. Good Counsel will look to pick up win No. 3 when they square off with St. Mary’s Ryken. 5. McDonogh School Eagles (6-0) Continuing to round out the Top 5 of the Maryland high school football Top 25 rankings are the McDonogh School Eagles, which went 8-3 a season ago and return one of the top defensive units in the state. The Eagles remained undefeated but barely got away in a 14-10 victory over St. Mary’s. McDonogh School looks to pick up their seventh win when they face Towson. 6. Quince Orchard Cougars (4-0)7.
