Maruti Suzuki has refreshed the Baleno for 2026, bringing a new three-cylinder petrol engine, Level 2 ADAS and added premium features to its popular hatchback.Maruti Suzuki has given the Baleno a significant mid-cycle refresh, with the updated premium hatchback now available at a starting price of Rs 6.10 lakh (ex-showroom). The 2026 Baleno brings more than cosmetic changes, with the facelift introducing a new three-cylinder petrol engine, upgraded cabin equipment and a major expansion of its safety technology. The biggest talking point is the addition of Level 2 ADAS, a feature that sets the Baleno apart from other cars in the premium hatchback segment. The updated model also gets a new powertrain shared with some of Maruti Suzuki's other recent offerings.New engine for the BalenoUnder the bonnet, the facelifted Baleno is powered by a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. The same engine is also used in the Swift and Dzire, replacing the powertrain previously offered in the Baleno. The move brings the hatchback in line with Maruti Suzuki's newer engine strategy while retaining a naturally aspirated petrol setup rather than moving to turbocharging. More equipment insideMaruti Suzuki has also used the facelift to add several comfort and convenience features. The cabin now gets a wireless charging pad with cooling, aimed at preventing smartphones from overheating during extended charging sessions.Another addition is a Clarion-branded audio system, while the front seats now come with ventilation. The latter is particularly noteworthy as Maruti claims ventilated front seats are a first for the segment.Baleno gets Level 2 ADAS The most substantial upgrade, however, comes in the form of the new Level 2 ADAS package. The system brings a range of driver-assistance functions designed to reduce the workload on the driver and provide additional protection in everyday traffic. The suite includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, autonomous emergency braking and automatic high-beam assist, among other functions. With this technology, the Baleno becomes one of the most feature-rich hatchbacks in its class.Safety equipment is not limited to the ADAS package. Six airbags are now offered across the range, while the updated hatchback also gets ABS with EBS, a tyre-pressure monitoring system and hill-hold assist. With prices starting at Rs 6.10 lakh (ex-showroom), the 2026 Baleno facelift strengthens Maruti Suzuki's offering in the premium hatchback space by combining a new engine with substantially more technology and safety equipment.Subscribe to Auto Today Magazine - EndsPublished On: Sep 5, 2026 19:49 IST
