The woman was injured in the incident in the Sitapura area and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.According to police, the accused had been pressuring the woman to marry him for nearly a year and had allegedly threatened to kill her if she turned down his proposal. A case has been registered based on her mother's complaint, and a search is on to trace him.Police also said the incident took place at around 10.30 pm on Wednesday when the woman was alone at her rented flat, as her mother and brother had gone to their shop. The accused, identified as Akash, a resident of Dholpur district, allegedly came to the flat on a motorcycle wearing a helmet, shot her in the chest and fled.After hearing the gunshot, neighbours rushed to the flat and found the woman injured. They informed her mother and brother, who took her to a private hospital. The woman was living with her mother and brother in Sitapura and was preparing for competitive examinations. Following the incident, senior cop Kamlesh Kumar said the preliminary investigation suggested that it was linked to a relationship between the two. The victim's mother told police that Akash had been pressing her daughter to marry him for nearly a year and had also threatened to kill her if she refused. Police said that about a fortnight ago, the mother had gone to the accused's house, where his family assured her that he would not harass her daughter or pressure her into marriage.She also alleged that the accused had earlier come to their rented accommodation and misbehaved with her daughter, after which the matter was raised with his family. Police said a forensic science team was called to the spot to collect evidence, and CCTV footage from cameras installed around the flat is being examined as part of the investigation.
