2 stabbed while sleeping in home; 1 killed, another in critical condition

A 32-year-old suspect has been arrested, police said.September 24, 2026, 2:48 PMA man was stabbed to death and a woman was stabbed and critically injured by a suspect who allegedly attacked them while they were asleep, authorities in Pennsylvania said.Officers responded around 12:30 a.m. Thursday to a home in Edgewood, just outside of Pittsburgh, where they found 46-year-old Idris Evans and a woman both suffering from multiple stab wounds, according to the Allegheny County Police Department.Evans was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead, while the woman was hospitalized in critical condition, police said.Police apprehended the suspect, 32-year-old Elijah Hemingway of Pittsburgh, after a K9 unit found him behind a nearby house, authorities said.Popular Reads"Through witness interviews, detectives determined Hemingway entered the home and attacked the victims while they were sleeping," police said in a statement.Hemingway had lacerations to his hand when he was apprehended and was taken to a hospital, police said.
