Now, with that shock reveal fully absorbed by fans, the franchise needs to reveal what the ancient hero's Sith name would have been. One of the oldest Jedi of all time, different eras of Star Wars have seen Yoda go from traveling warrior to weary general to cosmic hermit, as Palpatine's rise to power broke one of the galaxy's greatest heroes along with the Jedi Order itself. All Jedi contain the potential for darkness, but in 2025 Marvel officially revealed just how close Yoda came to becoming a Sith, reacting in a very different way to Palpatine's rise. But the reveal won't be complete until we know what a Sith Yoda would have called himself. Star Wars: Jedi Knights Revealed Yoda Almost Fell To The Dark Side In March 2025, Star Wars: Jedi Knights (from Marc Guggenheim, Madibek Musabekov, Luis Guerrero and Clayton Cowles) revealed Yoda's Sith design. The art is part of a vision of the future by a young Obi-Wan Kenobi, in an adventure set a few years before The Phantom Menace. While some of Obi-Wan's vision came true, Yoda's fall obviously didn't. However, the issue confirms that this wasn't some long-shot event - Yoda was close enough to becoming a Sith that those attuned enough to the Force could see it happening in the future. The exact circumstances aren't explained, but between the soul-crushing events of the Clone Wars and Palpatine's destruction of the Jedi Order, it makes sense how Yoda could have fallen to the Dark Side. Yoda looks incredibly imposing in engulfing robes and with black eyes, lightning crackling in his hand. However, this awesome concept isn't complete without a Sith title, since the 'Darth' names codify Sith identity as fully as their design. Yoda Would Have Officially Been A Stronger Sith Than Palpatine The design shown in Star Wars: Jedi Knights is faithful to Count Dooku's vision in 2004's Yoda: Dark Rendezvous by Sean Stewart. The Legends-era novel sees Dooku attempt to tempt Yoda to the Dark Side, with the Jedi allowing Dooku a vision of his Sith potential in response. The book describes: Yoda's face was deeply hidden in the shadows, mottled black and blue, so that for one terrible instant he looked exactly like Darth Sidious. Or rather, it was Yoda as he might have been, or could yet become: a Yoda gone rotten... However, what makes this similarity even more potent is that the novel confirmed Yoda would be an even more powerful Sith than Palpatine, with Yoda's nine-century lifespan giving him an even deeper connection to the Force, as well as centuries of grief and trauma to draw on. The book describes Dooku realizing that: If Yoda ever turned that way, Sidious himself would be annihilated. The universe had yet to comprehend the kind of evil that a Jedi Knight of nearly nine hundred years could wield. While Yoda: Dark Rendezvous isn't considered modern canon, the Star Wars: Jedi Knights vision confirms Yoda almost turned, and maintains the visual comparison between Yoda and Palpatine. That only makes it even more tantalizing for fans that we don't know what potentially the most powerful Sith of all time would have been named. What Would Yoda's Sith Name Have Been? In Star Wars canon, Sith Masters tend to bestow Sith names on their apprentices, with a popular fan theory stating that Sith names describe their path to the Dark Side - 'Darth Tyranus' seeking political power, 'Darth Vader' attempting to save his children and wife, 'Darth Sidious' acting from the shadows etc. Given Yoda's long life, there are a lot of avenues that could provide his Sith name, but ultimately it would ideally emerge from whatever moment turned him from the light. Were it his experiences in the Clone Wars, some corruption of 'General' would be likely, given his discomfort with the role. Had Dooku succeeded in turning him, it would likely be some play on his role as a Jedi Master, given he'd have been undone by his own corrupted student. Star Wars fans are used to debating and theorizing around tantalizing details, but with Yoda's potential fall, the name is the key detail. All Jedi can potentially turn Sith, and Dark Rendezvous already described Yoda as a Palpatine-esque figure, but a Sith name would be truly new information that could fuel fan discussion for years. A year and a half after Star Wars revealed Yoda's Sith design, it's time for some form of media to give this hypothetical character a name, allowing fans to speculate about a villain who by all accounts would have been even more powerful than Palpatine.
