A 17-year-old boy rented an Audi through an app to celebrate a friend's birthday in Delhi, but the overnight joyride ended in a fatal road accident in Kishangarh near Vasant Kunj, police said.The luxury car rammed three other vehicles and hit a pedestrian, who later died of his injuries.The accident was reported on October 4, 2026, near a CNG pump at the Red Light in Kishangarh. According to police, the Audi was being driven rashly and negligently when it collided with three other vehicles and struck a pedestrian.The pedestrian, identified as 45-year-old Umashankar, sustained serious injuries in the accident. He was rushed to the JPN Apex Trauma Centre, where doctors declared him dead. TEENAGE DRIVER DETAINEDPolice detained the 17-year-old driver during the investigation and produced him before the Juvenile Justice Board-II through video conferencing. The Audi and the other vehicles involved in the crash were seized as part of the investigation.A case has been registered at Kishangarh police station under FIR No. 244/2026 under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 3/181 of the Motor Vehicles Act. Further investigation is underway. Police are also examining how the minor was able to rent the luxury vehicle. Investigators are seeking details from the rental company about the booking process, age verification, driving licence checks and the procedure followed before the Audi was handed over.Authorities said action would be taken against the company if the investigation establishes that mandatory verification was not carried out or that rules were violated while renting out the vehicle to the minor.POLICE PROBE HOW HE GOT THE CARInvestigators are also probing whether the 17-year-old was driving the Audi for the entire period or whether another person took control of the vehicle at any point.Police are further trying to establish the identities and ages of all those who were travelling in the Audi when the accident took place.
