1666: Amsterdam Early Access Release Date Revealed

While the demo didn’t give us much to do, it won’t be long now until we have more to get stuck into, with a major update coming later this month. On August 25, 1666: Amsterdam launches in early access. This will unlock more of the game and let players experience the combat and gameplay loop of 1666: Amsterdam, as well as play around with the dual-protagonist system. As with any other early access release, picking it up now means you’ll have the full game whenever it’s ready. 1666: Amsterdam's Early Access Launch Set For August 25, And Previews Are Out Now This early access build will be similar to what I played through during a1666: Amsterdam preview session a couple of weeks ago. You can read my full thoughts here, but to summarise, I believe this game shows a lot of promise, with a fresh take on witches and their magic. However, the controls can often prove limiting and frustrating, which will hopefully be adjusted during early access. 1666: Amsterdam’s early access is only available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The game is coming to console at launch, but it means anyone without a PC that can run it will be in for a bit of a wait. The recent demo is also PC-exclusive. Alongside this reveal and all the previews coming in, the devs have dropped a new look at 1666: Amsterdam’s gameplay. This specifically focuses on the day and night cycle, and Noa’s mission to identify the “originals” - those with magic, which she is tasked with collecting. During the day, you investigate the area to find their identity, moving around the cramped streets of Amsterdam, taking a range of different paths to get the information you need. Then, at night, you confront the originals in combat, taking them down in a boss battle. If you’re getting any Ubisoft vibes from this at all, that’s because development is being led by Patrice Désilets, who previously worked on the Assassin’s Creed series. Ubisoft actually fought for the rights to this game before Désilets got them back.
