14 Years After Dark Knight Rises, Tom Hardy Resurrects Bane's Voice In The Most Unexpected Way

Directed by Christopher Nolan, the third installment in Christian Bale's Batman trilogy features the legendary Caped Crusader facing off against Bane, a hulking mercenary who lays siege to Gotham. Hardy memorably put on a lot of muscle to play the ruthless villain, but it was his distinctive voice for the character that has truly stood the test of time. Now, Hardy has resurrected his Dark Knight Rises Bane voice, not for a movie, but for a rap song from his debut album Czarface Meets Frankie Pulitzer. The song, which has been shared on the Czarface YouTube channel, is called "Grim-Visaged War," and it features Hardy reciting a monologue from Shakespeare's Richard III as Bane. Alongside Hardy's Frankie Pulitzer, the album marks a collaboration with Inspectah Deck, 7L, and Esoteric (Czarface). The new rap album isn't necessarily new territory for Hardy, as the actor did previously record some hip-hop music in the late 1990s under the name Tommy No. 1. Hardy's Bane voice is one of the elements of The Dark Knight Rises that has lived on. The voice made headlines at the time because, not only was it unexpected and so unlike Hardy's natural speaking voice, but the original sound mix of the film made it difficult to understand what Hardy was actually saying. Nolan later updated the mix to make Bane's voice lines more intelligible. Although The Dark Knight Rises was considered by some to be a disappointment after The Dark Knight (2008), which remains a Nolan filmography highlight, the film was still a massive success. Rises grossed $1.085 billion worldwide and remained Nolan's highest-grossing movie ever until it was recently unseated by The Odyssey (2026). The Odyssey has grossed $1.458 billion worldwide and counting. Though Hardy is evidently interested in pursuing music on the side, he remains best known as an actor. His most recent notable project is the MobLand TV show on Paramount+, in which he plays lead character Harry Da Souza. MobLand season 2 premieres on the streamer on September 18. In terms of movies, Hardy's most recent project was Netflix's Havoc (2025), a violent Gareth Evans action thriller. Before that, he bid farewell to the character of Eddie Brock in Venom: The Last Dance (2024). Hardy doesn't have many movie projects on the docket, but he is attached to a heist thriller called 77 Blackout, which will also star Mahershala Ali.
