13,031 booth agents active to ensure no eligible voter is deleted: Delhi Congress

(Representative image)The Delhi Congress on Tuesday said 13,031 of its Booth-Level Agent-2 (BLA-2) workers are actively participating in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, with the party vowing to ensure that no eligible voter is removed from the rolls.The announcement came during a meeting of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee’s Parliamentary Affairs Committee at Rajiv Bhawan, where senior leaders also reviewed preparations for the upcoming Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections.DPCC president Devender Yadav said the party’s BLA-2 network was active across Delhi and would raise issues related to the SIR with voters at the booth level. The BLA-2 of the Aam Aadmi Party was not even half visible,” Yadav said in a statement. He described the possible exclusion of more than 45 lakh electors from the draft rolls as a “blot on democracy” and said the party would campaign against the exercise at the grassroots level.The meeting also focused on the Congress’ preparations for the MCD polls. Yadav said the party had replaced 180 block presidents and now had more than 25,000 workers connected to its district, block, mandalam and sector-level organisational structures. Congress treasurer Ajay Maken stressed that the party’s organisational machinery should focus on issues affecting people rather than merely seeking media attention.“We should not raise issues with the newspapers, but raise issues that newspapers are forced to raise,” Maken said.Maken also highlighted the Congress’ booth-level presence as a potential organisational strength, noting that each of Delhi’s 11,989 polling booths recorded more than 15 votes for the party in the last election.AICC Delhi in-charge Qazi Nizamuddin said the party needed to further strengthen its booth-level organisation ahead of the DUSU elections scheduled for September.“Since the DUSU elections are in September, which comes after the student movement, the NSUI will have to work actively to make its presence felt in these elections,” he said.The committee also passed a resolution condemning a reported “purification” ritual conducted after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge addressed a rally in Uttarakhand’s Haldwani.
