12 Other Mutants We Want To See In Marvel’s New X-Men Movie

The MCU's upcoming X-Men movie finally has an initial cast, making the reboot feel more real than ever before. As seen at Disney's D23 Expo, Marvel Studios announced Sadie Sink's Jean Grey following her MCU debut in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Maya Boyd as Storm, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Christopher Abbot as Professor X, and Samara Weaving as Emma Frost. Adam Driver was also revealed as the film's primary villain, Nathaniel Milbury, better known in the comics as Mister Sinister. However, it's more than likely that even more mutants will eventually be part of the cast. Thanks to projects like Marvel Studios' X-Men '97 revival series, audiences are being primed for mutant characters who might not have had the biggest focus in Fox's previous X-Men movie franchise. As amazing as Hugh Jackman's Wolverine was (and still is), he definitely took up a lot of the spotlight. As such, there's now a great opportunity to start fresh, giving underutilized mutant heroes exciting new roles and stories. Keeping that in mind, here are 12 more mutant characters Marvel Studios absolutely needs to consider adding to its brand-new upcoming X-Men franchise. Magneto Having been teased as Adam Driver's MCU character before he confirmed he was playing Nathaniel Milbury, Magneto is arguably the biggest omission from Marvel Studios' confirmed cast so far. Originating as the X-Men's greatest foe while still being one of Xavier's oldest friends who helped start his dream for mutantkind, it would be so difficult to leave Erik Lensherr/Magnus out of the new reboot completely. While I do like the idea of perhaps saving his debut and waiting until after the first movie to keep things more fresh as things are getting established, it feels necessary to include Magneto eventually. There truly is no better foil to rival/compliment Xavier and his dream of mutant-human coexistence. Gambit I'm incredibly excited to see Channing Tatum get his full due as Gambit in Avengers: Doomsday after his excellent debut in 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine, a hero of the Void who never got his chance to be the hero he always dreamed of being. It's the perfect parallel to Tatum's real-life Gambit dreams that had been put on hold for over a decade, with Fox's Gambit solo movie forever trapped in development hell. That being said, I'm just as excited to potentially see a brand-new Remy LeBeau in the MCU proper in the upcoming X-Men reboot. With the confirmation that Inde Navarrette is set to play Rogue, I would love to see one of Marvel's most popular romances finally making it to live-action (Fox's Rogue was in a relationship with Iceman). Likewise, I can almost guarantee that Gambit's role in Avengers: Doomsday is going to leave MCU fans wanting so much more. Nightcrawler The opening sequence of 2003's X2 very much proved that Kurt Wagner's Nightcrawler is easily one of the most naturally cinematic characters. While so much can be done action-wise with his impressive teleportation abilities, even more can be achieved with his unique character, as he's typically full of optimism and genuine faith. As such, Marvel Studios should absolutely take the opportunity to make Kurt the heart of their new X-Men roster, just as he has been on the page and especially with X-Men 97's Nightcrawler in animation. While Alan Cumming's Nightcrawler will be returning in Avengers: Doomsday as well, he only made the one appearance in the Fox franchise with X2 (and absolutely deserved more). A younger new MCU Nightcrawler could also have stronger connections to his family history in the comics (like Mystique as his mother and Rogue as his adoptive sister). Beast The MCU also has the exciting opportunity to give Hank McCoy's Beast a bigger live-action spotlight than ever before. One of the original five X-Men alongside Cyclops, Jean, Angel, and Iceman. As great as Kelsey Grammer's casting as Beast was in 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand, Nicholas Hoult's younger Beast with Fox's younger cast definitely had the stronger character arc. That said, one can only hope that Marvel Studios will go even bigger with one of the smartest and most fascinating mutants in the Marvel Universe. Angel Another member of the O5 who was underutilized in both of Fox's X-Men casts, perhaps the time has come for Warren Worthington III's Angel to finally get his due in live-action. Having origins in the comics as the heir to millions who started as a vigilante before getting recruited by Professor Xavier, there are some fascinating narratives to explore with Warren, particularly if you go far enough to his infamous dark evolution as Archangel. Iceman There's so much opportunity for Bobby Drake's Iceman in the MCU. Another O5 X-Man, all Marvel Studios really has to do to make Bobby feel fresh and new in live-action is not put him in a relationship with Rogue. An Omega-level mutant like Jean and Storm, Iceman's powers are unparalleled in the Marvel Universe. Likewise, this younger cast of X-Men in the MCU could easily make use of Bobby's humor as one of the roster's more lighthearted members. Colossus Colossus is long overdue for a serious MCU adaptation with a more significant role than Fox ever gave him. While the Deadpool franchise gave him more of a spotlight relative to the primary X-Men movies, a full and meaningful arc for Piotr Rasputin is absolutely in order. Despite his nearly indestructible metal skin and impressive strength, Colossus has one of the most gentle spirits of any X-Men character, something that would be amazing to see in full with a new live-action depiction. He deserves to be so much more than the guy who throws Wolverine for a "Fastball Special." Magik Colossus' sister Magik should be part of the conversation as well. More than most members of the X-Men, Illyana Raputin's story could so easily intersect with the more supernatural parts of the MCU, allowing her to organically interact with the likes of Doctor Strange and more magically inclined characters. Interestingly, Magik did make her live-action debut in Fox's The New Mutants, played by Anya Taylor-Joy, a truly perfect casting I'd argue most fans would love to see continue in some form, even if Taylor-Joy wasn't playing the same version from the Fox universe. Dazzler Without a doubt, Dazzler would be a very fun addition to the MCU, even if she wasn't a main member of the X-Men's primary roster. Having the ability to convert sound into light, Alison Blaire is one of the Marvel Universe's biggest pop stars in the comics. After all the speculation and theories that Taylor Swift was going to cameo as Dazzler in 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine, it'd be pretty fun to see some sort of appearance in the MCU proper once Marvel Studios' X-Men franchise gets going. Kitty Pryde Kitty Pryde arguably still needs a definitive live-action interpretation. Despite being played by Elliot Page in X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: Days of Future Past, the Fox franchise arguably only scratched the surface of the character. Likewise, Kitty's phasing is another classic mutant ability that absolutely deserves to be on the big screen.
