1,000 more cleanliness workers to be deployed in Madurai for Meenakshi temple consecration

Moorthy Madurai Corporation will deploy 1,000 cleanliness workers drawn from different cities and districts, in addition to its 600 workers, for cleaning works during Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple consecration.Elaborating on the preparation being made by the Corporation for the mega event, Commissioner Gaurav Kumar said workers from Coimbatore, Salem, Tiruppur, Erode, Tiruchi, Tirunelveli, Sivakasi, Thoothukudi and Dindigul Corporations and other parts of southern districts would be deployed in Madurai.The local body had renovated 24 public restrooms and set up temporary toilets at 28 places. Three to five restrooms had been provided in each spot. Cleanliness workers had been nominated for round-the-clock cleaning of each restroom.While 16 drinking water tanks had been installed on Chithirai Streets, 203 tanks would be set up around the temple for providing protected drinking water to the devotees.Adequate number of workers had been nominated to ensure that water was filled up in the tanks whenever required. Drinking water facilities would be provided at all the 72 vehicle parking lots and five temporary bus stands. All the fittings and connections had been checked for safety. The Corporation would deploy 54 medical teams at 27 places.The civic body had also taken up renovation of pedestrian platforms and efforts were being made to maintain their cleanliness, including sand removal on road margins. Steps were being taken to ensure that rainwater did not stagnate on Chithrai and Aavani Moola Streets, he said.Signages with QR codes were being provided around the temple for the people to identify the spots of medical camps, toilets, drinking water dispensers, parking lots and the nearest bus stand, Mr. Gaurav Kumar said.Over 1,000 Corporation workers, led by the Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioners, and the Assistant Executive Engineers would be deployed for the consecration works, he added.Director of Municipal Administration P.
