100 Maharashtra pilgrims stranded in Nepal floods rescued, sent home from Bihar

According to a statement issued by the Bihar government, nearly 100 pilgrims from Maharashtra, stranded in Kathmandu after sudden flash floods in Nepal, were safely evacuated from Nepal border and sent back to their home state by the Bihar government.The rescue operation was carried out following a request from the Maharashtra government. The Bihar government said the effort was undertaken on humanitarian and compassionate grounds, with the state administration coordinating the pilgrims' safe movement from the Nepal border to Maharashtra.PILGRIMS ESCORTED TO SITAMARHIActing on the directions of the Bihar Chief Minister and under the continuous supervision of the Chief Secretary and the Principal Secretary of the Disaster Management Department, the Sitamarhi district administration took swift action on August 28.In coordination with the Disaster Management Department, officials safely escorted all the pilgrims from the Nepal border to Sitamarhi.The administration arranged food, drinking water and other essential facilities for the pilgrims in Sitamarhi.PILGRIMS BROUGHT TO PATNAThe pilgrims were subsequently brought from Sitamarhi to Patna, reaching the state capital at around 2.30 am on August 29.The Patna district administration accommodated them where arrangements were made for food and lodging. Medical check-ups and other necessary facilities were also provided that night.EXTRA COACHES ARRANGED FOR MAHARASHTRATo facilitate the pilgrims' return journey, the Bihar government coordinated with the Railway Board in New Delhi.Following coordination between the Bihar Chief Secretary and the Chairman of the Railway Board, two additional coaches were attached to the Patna-Purna Express.The pilgrims were safely dispatched to Maharashtra by train at around 7.30 am on August 29 under the special arrangements.
