With Halloween 2026 upon us, this is the absolute perfect time of year to get cozy inside with a video game that has just the right blend of spooky, cute, and cozy. For many, just playing through the Autumn season in Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing: New Horizons can be enough to give us those fall vibes, but there are many other games out there that can give even more of a Halloween and fall feel, while still giving a cozy atmosphere. Naturally, if you want even more of a jump-scare type of game that will keep you up at night, there are hundreds of incredible horror games out there to dive into. But for those of you like me, who aren't as fond of being totally scared, here are several wonderfully cozy games that might lean a little into the spooky vibes, and definitely feel just right for this season. Little Witch In The Woods Starting things off is the adorably cozy, and not spooky at all, life simulation game, Little Witch In The Woods. The game first entered Early Access in 2022 and is now fully released for PC, Switch, and Xbox systems. You play as Ellie, a young and bubbly apprentice witch who finds herself lost in the woods after getting off a train a bit too early. Along with her talking hat, Virgil, she decides to move into an abandoned witch house and finish her training by helping grumpy villagers. Players can brew potions, gather ingredients and fish, craft furniture to decorate your new home, and just wander around. There's a journal-like encyclopedia to fill out by finding critters, and lots of cats to pet, and overall it's just the sweetest little witchy game you could play this fall. Beacon Pines Beacon Pines brings us a creepy narrative adventure game, while still giving plenty of coziness. As our review of the game said, "despite its cute characters and aesthetics, Beacon Pines has an equally dark and heartwarming story to tell." In fact, the game developers have even described it as "Winnie-the-Pooh meets Twin Peaks", which is a pretty apt description. As a narrative adventure, your goal here is to get a happy ending to the game, with the player having to make several choices throughout the story that can change the outcome. Further adding to its difficulty, the choices you make are limited by the amount of "Charms" the player has picked up along the way, which can be found by exploring the various timelines. Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit Both Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit and its predecessor, Cozy Grove, are perfect for this time of year, giving just the right blend of ghostly hauntings and cheerful questing. As a Spirit Scout on a haunted island, players are introduced to several unique ghostly bears who are stuck in this in-between realm due to some problem that is troubling them. As you help soothe their spirits by completing their quests and finding several hidden secrets across the island, you slowly bring light and color back to Cozy Grove. Plus, you get to craft and decorate your little campsite, as well as other furniture and lights to decorate the island you are temporarily calling home. Strange Antiquities An occult puzzle adventure, Strange Antiquities gives a darker, creepier aspect to shopkeeping. Here, you play as an assistant at an occult shop where customers come in looking for help with problems such as lifting a curse or finding a magical item. In order to help them successfully, players must solve puzzles and even win some minigames in order to find the correct item. If you prefer, there is also a previous game, Strange Horticulture, which also offers plenty of supernatural vibes while dealing more with plants but still offers spooky clientele and intriguing puzzles. The two are standalone games, however, so either one is a great place to start. Gloomy Eyes Fans of anything done by Tim Burton will appreciate the inspiration behind Gloomy Eyes. Originally released as a VR title, it has since been adapted into a cozy horror console and PC game that is more widely available. As the game description states, Gloomy Eyes is "filled with spooky charm, eerie beauty, and heartwarming gloom." Playing as both a sweet zombie boy, Gloomy, and a mischievous human girl, Nena, you set out on a quest, solving environment-based puzzles. After the world has been plunged into an eternal night, you attempt to bring back the sun while using the skills of both characters. It's whimsical and heartwarming, while also being creepy and bleak. Costume Quest Costume Quest is an oldie but a goodie, and you can't get anything cozier and more perfect for Halloween. This is one that I love to play every Halloween, and there's also a sequel if you want even more (although the original is still the best). This little party-based RPG from 2010 starts out simple enough, with you playing as a child who is trick-or-treating with their twin on Halloween. However, things quickly turn more serious as a monster kidnaps the twin and, along with other child companions, you must track down the monsters and face their leader. Different costumes offer different battle mechanics, with each character transforming into their costume in battle scenes. Dredge If you like fishing games but wish they had a bit more of Lovecraftian horror in them, Dredge might just be the perfect game for you. Combining horror, survival, and fishing genres together, you play as a fisherman in an open world with five archipelagos. The day-night cycle here is important to remember. Although the daytime might be serene and peaceful, the night brings supernatural events and sea monsters into the mix. Despite having plenty of psychological thriller aspects to the atmosphere, the game isn't a jump-scare style of horror. There are lots of hidden secrets to find, and the fishing minigames are engaging, with a unique twist when you find a mutated version of fish alongside the regular ones. Graveyard Keeper 2 Graveyard Keeper 2, and its original, can almost be considered very strange adaptations of the traditional farming life sim. Developers call it the "most inaccurate medieval cemetery sim," where you are managing a graveyard and leading a zombie horde to protect your town against the more malicious undead. This game is full of unhinged humor and a twisted story that really makes you rethink the zombie apocalypse trope. Because why not put some of the zombies to use to build towers and fortifications and then teach them how to fight off the bad guys? Zombie-based automation can truly be a beautiful thing when you think about it. Cult Of The Lamb You've probably already heard of the 2022 roguelite hit, Cult of the Lamb, but if you haven't played it yet, then this could just be the perfect season to start. Playing as a cute little lamb and starting a cult in order to unseat the villainous Bishops of the Old Faith, you work to recruit a large roster of Followers, who you may or may not treat well. Along the way, you also have to fight off a variety of enemies and bosses and complete quests. It blends roguelite, dungeon crawling, and town management together, with a ton of dark humor thrown in to keep you laughing and coming back for more. Moonlight Peaks This summer we saw the release of Moonlight Peaks, which can be very loosely described as Stardew Valley with vampires. Despite being the spawn of Dracula, you simply want to live a quiet and peaceful farming life in the supernatural-filled town of Moonlight Peaks. Here, you can romance other characters, including Death, while farming unique crops and trying to get to bed before the sun comes up. The game doesn't hold your hand, so you need to be prepared to come up with many of your own goals for those nights when the main story doesn't progress right away. However, there are plenty of side objectives to complete. Whether you want to find all the hidden Vampsters or fill the Museum, or simply work on your farm while raising interesting animals and decorating your house, there's plenty to keep you occupied in this supernatural farming sim this Halloween.
