For those of you who are unaware, amiibo are figures (and cards) that have NFC touchpoints, which can directly interact with various Nintendo game systems, including the Wii U, 3DS, Switch, and Switch 2. The original run was limited to a selection of Super Smash Bros. characters, but the amiibo concept quickly expandeddue to their success, with third-party studios even providing their own figures. Everything came to a head in Wave 4, when demand was so high that retailers started turning away fans waiting in line to pre-order after just a few orders. Since then, things have slowed down a bit, but amiibo are still coming out. Here are some of the most expensive figures you can find. Solaire of Astora 2026 Price: $67 (Loose), $98 (Sealed) Solaire of Astora joins amiibo like Shovel Knight and Mega Man as a rare third-party release. As you may have noticed, these tend to be among the priciest amiibo around, since they are typically secured by third-party publishers and given a limited run. In October 2018, when Dark Souls was being ported to the Switch, you could also pick up the Solaire of Astora amiibo. The reward is simple: you can instantly unlock the Praise the Sun emote. It's not much, but given how little official merchandise there was for Dark Souls at the time, this was an easy way to display your love for the series, with the iconic Praise the Sun gesture on full display. Samus & Metroid 2026 Price: $85 (Loose), $99 (Sealed) Given Samus' popularity, it makes sense why she would be released multiple times. Her original debut was in November 2014 as one of the original figures, along with Donkey Kong, Link, Villager, Kirby, Pikachu, Fox, Yoshi, Marth, Wii Fit Trainer, Mario, and Peach. While it wasn't part of the "Holy Trinity" of rare Wave 1 amiibo (that honor is bestowed on Marth, Wii Fit Trainer, and Villager, which were harder to find than most), it's still amiibo royalty. We also got Zero Suit Samus in 2015, Dark Samus in 2020, Metroid Dread Samus in 2021, and two figures for Metroid Prime 4 in 2025 (Samus and the Vi-O-La motorcycle). But the rarest one right now is the Metroid 2-Pack from September 2017, which features Samus and an actual Metroid, perched on a glass containment unit. Gold Mega Man 2026 Price: $70 (Loose), $100 (Sealed) Mega Man technically has three amiibo releases, dating back to 2015. There's an amiibo for Mega Man 11, featuring a newer Mega Man design, one for Smash Bros with his classic look, and a golden version of the Smash amiibo, bundled with the Mega Man Legacy Collection on 3DS. It's obvious why the Golden Mega Man is so rare. It's a variant amiibo, released on a platform that's no longer active, and exclusively released in a pricier bundle. Its functionality is the same as the Smash amiibo, so there's nothing special about it other than its coat of paint. Still, collectors will seek it out anyway. Yarn Poochy 2026 Price: $75 (Loose), $129 (Sealed) In a bit of a staggered release, the Poochy amiibo arrived with the 3DS port of Yoshi's Woolly World, titled Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World. It was a full year-and-a-half gap for the 3DS edition, making it a weird drop that didn't get much stock. Like the other Yarn Yoshi released before it, it's made of yarn, and its design is sure to make collectors go wild. One-Eyed Liolaeus and Rider [Girl] 2026 Price: $56 (Loose), $190 (Sealed) It's important to get this out of the way now: Monster Hunter amiibo are generally going to dominate this list. There were multiple Monster Hunter amiibo that either had a limited production run, were in high demand, or were Japan-exclusive. It's hard to even find a listing for the One-Eyed Liolaeus and Rider [Girl] amiibo in general, and Nintendo doesn't even list it on their official US amiibo listing site. Splatoon 3 Pack 2026 Price: $80 (Loose), $196 (Sealed) This is a weird edge case, but the Splatoon 3-Pack still commands an incredibly high price since its release in July 2016. This is actually the "alt-colors" pack, featuring a green Inkling Girl, purple Inkling Boy, and an orange Inkling Squid. The issue is that the Inkling Squid is exclusively sold in the 3-pack set, leading hardcore collectors to seek them out, and potentially break apart the lot to get a full collection. Since there are so many Splatoon amiibo (even in 2026, as the Raiders line just gave us three more), it can be hard to keep track of everything. But if you see the orange Inkling Squid, you're on the right track. It's hard to believe that these were originally released for the first Splatoon game. Yarn Yoshi 2026 Price: $146 (Loose), $214 (Sealed) Mega Yarn Yoshi is one of the weirdest amiibo released yet. While the Detective Pikachu and storytime Rosalina figures tower over the rest, the Mega Yarn Yoshi is the king amiibo, and one of the biggest offered to date. It came out all the way back on November 15, 2015, and several factors contribute to its high price. For one, this was a Toys "R" Us exclusive in the US. Considering how much shelf space it took up, it wasn't in stores for very long, and it could be a pain to even find one at all. Since Yoshi games are evergreen (including Yoshi's Woolly World, for which the amiibo was released), amiibo collectors are always looking for a stray Mega Yarn Yoshi floating around the marketplace. Lioleia & Cheval (Monster Hunter) 2026 Price: $144 (Loose), $272 (Sealed) Similar to the other Monster Hunter amiibo on the list, Cheval riding on Lioleia is extremely rare, more so than the other two released at the same time. Some fans have even dubbed this one an "uncollectible" amiibo. Cheval is actually a human character from Monster Hunter Stories 2, and also features in the Monster Hunter Stories Ride On anime. Lioleia is one of the titular "monsters." Navirou (Monster Hunter) 2026 Price: $110 (Loose), $287 (Sealed) Navirou is an adorable Felyne character from the Monster Hunter Stories series, and as expected, it's one of the more rare amiibo released to date. Released in October 2016 in Japan for Monster Hunter Stories, it's a cute cat that's rare: enough said, when it comes to collectors. It also has a wide array of functionality, with support for Monster Hunter Stories, Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Welcome amiibo, Resident Evil Revelations 1+2, Monster Hunter Rise, and Monster Hunter Stories 2. This could be contributing to the high price, as it's uncharacteristically usable across multiple games (albeit mostly Capcom titles). Qbby 2026 Price: $320 (Loose), $375 (Sealed) Qbby is one of the most fascinating amiibo of the bunch. Released as part of the Bye-Bye Boxboy 3DS launch in Japan, this is another region-exclusive amiibo, which factors into the price. The thing that is really important to realize is that Qbby never got a physical release in the West, so the amiibo wouldn't have any chance to be bundled in. Bye-Bye BoxBoy was offered as a digital release instead, adding to its rarity. It's a shame, because Qbby has some interesting functionality with other Kirby titles, as well as Qbby's own game. It's a versatile amiibo, and one of the most unassuming of the bunch. The regional discrepancy and the oddball nature of its release ensure that this figure will be one of the rarest amiibo going forward. Since it was dropped in early 2017, it's now a legacy item. Boxboy isn't the biggest franchise globally, so it had a shorter run than other figures. As far as what's to come for Nintendo amiibo, there is more in the pipeline. The Resident Evil Requiem wave (with Leon and Grace) just hit at the end of July, following up the release of King Dedede and the Tank Star vehicle. Next up in September is Mineru's Construct for Tears of the Kingdom, and Chef Kawasaki and Hop Star. In November, Sword Kirby and the Dragoon amiibo will launch in tandem with Noir Dedede and Hydra.
