Published Nov 6, 2026, 5:00 PM EST A Bonnie and Clyde-like thriller, a documentary, and more Image: Magnolia Pictures/Everett Collection Happy weekend! It’s a good one for new movie releases, from genre offerings to independent films that could be award contenders in the coming months. Godzilla Minus Zero is finally out, with our review calling it the best Godzilla movie of all time, an endorsement that should send any Polygon readers straight to their nearest movie theater. In independent cinema, there’s Club Kid, which has inspired award buzz and is out on limited release. Ramayana: Part 1, the latest Indian cinematic epic, is also currently in theaters and earning strong reviews (just make sure to watch the full Hindi version, not the shortened English dub). But if you don’t feel like going to the theater, we’ve got you covered. Carolina Caroline, a Bonnie and Clyde-like love story starring Samara Weaving and Kyle Gallner, is out on Netflix. Making Marie Antoinette, the documentary about the making of Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette, arrives on Mubi. (It was shot by her late mother, Eleanor Coppola, and features some rare mother-daughter interviews.) We also have some star vehicles for different actors. Alan Ritchison plays the silent lead in Motor City, following him as an ex-con in the ‘70s out for revenge on a gangster who framed him for a crime and also stole his girlfriend. Then there’s Saoirse Ronan in Bad Apples as a middle school teacher who locks up her most disruptive student in her basement and pretends that everything is okay while the town falls into disarray as they search for the missing boy. If these films sound intruiging to you, read one for a full breakdown of what's available to stream this weekend. (But also, please see Godzilla Minus Zero in theaters, it really is that good.) 1 Carolina Caroline Image: Magnolia Pictures Available on Netflix Genre: Action Run time: 1h 47m Director: Adam Carter Rehmeir Cast: Samara Weaving, Kyle Gallner, Kyra Sedgwick Caroline (Samara Weaving) is stuck in a life she doesn't want. One day, while working at the local gas station, a charming con artist (Kyle Gallner) walks in, robbing the cashier. He impresses her so much that the two decide to go on a date, partnering up and embarking on a crime-filled road trip across the American South. 2 April X Image: Sunrise Films Available on VOD Genre: Sci-fi Run time: 1h 36m Director: Michel K. Parandi Cast: Connor Storrie, Lily Krug, Serban Pavlu Set in a future dystopia where clones exist and organ trafficking is a part of people’s daily lives, April X follows twins Bax (Connor Storrie) and April (Lily Krug). After a scheme goes wrong, Bax is left with a massive debt; meanwhile, his sister goes missing. 3 Making Marie Antoinette Image: Mubi Available on Mubi Genre: Documentary Run time: 1h 26m Director: Eleanor Coppola Cast: N/A Making Marie Antoinette is a documentary consisting of behind-the-scenes footage from the 57-day shoot of Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette, featuring the cast and crew at the Palace of Versailles, and interviews between Sofia and her mother. It was compiled during the COVID-19 pandemic, when mother and daughter eyed the footage together. After Eleanor died in 2024, Sofia completed the film in her mother’s memory. 4 Motor City Image: IFC Available on AMC+ Genre: Action Run time: 1h 43 Director: Potsy Ponciroli Cast: Alan Ritchson, Shailene Woodley, Pablo Schreiber Set in Detroit in the 1970s, Motor City follows an ex-con who’s looking for revenge on the gangster who framed him and stole his girlfriend. The film notably features almost no dialogue, relying on its ‘70s rock soundtrack and intense action sequences. Per our Polygon review: Motor City belongs in that tradition. Not because it's trying to reinvent the revenge thriller, but because it remembers that audiences enjoy connecting the dots on their own. The satisfaction comes not from solving some impossible mystery but from realizing the movie has quietly been giving you the information you needed all along. That's what makes its release feel so refreshing. Not because movies like this no longer exist, but because they no longer dominate the genre the way they once did. 5 Possible Love Image: Netflix Available on Netflix Genre: Romance Run time: 2h 44m Director: Lee Chang-dong Cast: Jeon Do-yeon, Sul Kyung-gu, Zo In-sung Possible Love marks Lee Chang-dong's first film since he released Burning to great acclaim eight years ago. The new story follows two married couples of different backgrounds who meet and get entangled while collaborating on a documentary. 6 The Uprising Image: Universal Available on Peacock Genre: Action Run time: 2h 8m Director: Paul Greengrass Cast: Andrew Garfield, Jamie Bell, Cosmo Jarvis Set in 1381, after England has been devastated by the Black Plague, The Uprising is a dramatization of the Peasants’ Revolt. In the film, a ploughman (Andrew Garfield) who's lost everything becomes a key figure in the revolt, fighting against a crown that has subjected commoners to oppression and high taxes. It might also be a Robin Hood origin story; I'm not sure. 7 Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass Image: Sony Pictures Classics Available on Netflix Genre: Comedy Run time: 1h 33m Director: David Wain Cast: Zoey Deutch, John Slattery, Ken Marino Gail Daughtry is happy and engaged to her high school sweetheart. When he meets and sleeps with his celebrity hall pass, she spirals, leaving her small town for Los Angeles, seeking her own celebrity hall pass to even the scales. 8 Bad Apples Image: Republic Pictures Available on VOD Genre: Dark comedy Run time: 1h 40m Director: Jonatan Etzler Cast: Saoirse Ronan, Eddie Waller, Nia Brown Maria (Saoirse Ronan) is a middle school teacher who’s struggling with a rebellious 10-year-old named Danny (Eddie Waller) who makes her life miserable by throwing her class into disarray every day. After the two square off in various incidents, Maria snaps, trapping the boy in her basement. When the town begins a search for him, she pretends to know nothing of it. 9 Beware Boiúna Image: Lionsgate Pictures Available on VOD Genre: Horror Run time: 1h 44m Director: Mike P. Nelson Cast: Jessica Rothe, Kiana Madeira, Logan Marshall-Green A group of medical students travels to the Amazon for a six-week humanitarian mission to aid local villages. They encounter a group of developers, setting off a fight and a chase that leads them deeper into the forest, where they awaken Boiúna, an ancient mythic serpent who begins hunting members of both groups. Per our Polygon interview: Beware Boiúna couldn't be more different from Anaconda (both the 2025 spoof and the 1997 original). This is no adventure-horror romp with big stars like Jennifer Lopez and Ice Cube. Instead, Beware Boiúna is a grounded, gritty army crawl through the literal mud and muck of the Amazon as a truck-sized, mythological snake unleashes its fury on anyone who dares put its fragile ecosystem at risk. Spawn screenwriter Alan B. McElroy's script doesn't pull any punches — nobody is safe in this movie — and Nelson captures it all in brutal, unflinching detail. 10 Primetime Image: A24 Available on VOD Genre: Thriller Run time: 1h 49m Director: Lance Oppenheimer Cast: Robert Pattinson, Skyler Gisondo, Merritt Wever Primetime is based on Chris Hansen and his famous show, To Catch a Predator. The film follows a fictional version of Hansen (Robert Pattinson), depicting a man obsessed with increasing the viewership numbers of his series, following him as he and the production team set up increasingly unethical sting operations in hopes of capturing the perfect footage.
