The Power Rangers franchise was arguably a cultural phenomenon when it premiered in 1993. It offered kids an incredible blend of elements they couldn't find elsewhere. The show had giant robots, color-coded fighting suits, over-the-top antagonists, and even fantasy battles and martial arts. That wild mix was also held together by a teen drama, as the Power Rangers attended school, where they had to keep their hidden identities a secret. It's hard to overstate just how popular the Power Rangers became in the 90s. It was one of the big morning TV shows for kids, propped up with plenty of merchandise. The Power Rangers grew so popular that Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie was released in 1995. It was successful at the box office, and younger audiences enjoyed it despite the more icy critical reception. While the Power Rangers were certainly a force to be reckoned with in the 90s, they appeal to a multigenerational audience because the franchise remains active today. Power Rangers in Space wowed fans in 1998, and Power Rangers Dino Thunder and RPM did the same for kids in the 2000s. The newest series, Cosmic Fury, only wrapped up in 2024. The only issue for fans of Power Rangers is that it's surprisingly difficult to find similar movies outside the franchise. The Power Rangers are a tough act to follow, but some movies still share elements that make the series so iconic. 10 The Avengers (2012) Image via Everett Collection The Avengers may be a low-hanging fruit, but it offers a high-budget superhero spectacle and an incredible roster of beloved characters working together to fight a threat none of them could handle alone. The plot of The Avengers is also fairly straightforward. Loki and his Chitauri army have invaded Earth, and the only ones capable of stopping his plans are the Avengers. Each Avenger has unique abilities, and their camaraderie is infectious. Power Rangers fans will appreciate the intense fights and action set pieces. The Marvel movies also feel like a series of sorts, with many of the Avengers enjoying their own solo projects before uniting for the 2012 film. Fans also have a library of titles to sift through if they have a favorite hero. 9 Big Hero 6 (2014) Big Hero 6 is an animated Disney movie about a young science prodigy named Hiro. Like Power Rangers, the movie shares the same teen-hero angle, with students who must work together to stop a mysterious supervillain. Hiro attends a robotics competition, where he showcases his Microbot technology. However, tragedy strikes at the event. A supervillain called Yokai emerges, and Hiro teams up with other young geniuses, each with their own special technology, to meet the threat head-on. Big Hero 6 also features Baymax. He's a lovable health care robot created by Hiro's elder brother and integral to the story as Hiro decides to make him combat-ready and a key part of the team. 8 Pacific Rim (2013) Pacific Rim is a remarkable movie on the list because it offers a stylish interpretation of one of the Power Rangers' most iconic tools. The Power Rangers use their Zords to fight massive foes, and Pacific Rim leans into similar mech combat on a grand scale. Humanity is facing an alien invasion in Pacific Rim, though the threat comes from beneath the waves rather than from space. Huge monsters emerge, and humans respond by creating giant robots to fight them. Like Zords, the Jaeger’s are piloted by two humans who work in sync. Pacific Rim is full of intense robot-on-monster combat. Audiences who enjoy the Zord battles in Power Rangers will adore the high-budget spectacle and brawls, with the fate of humanity at stake. 7 Transformers (2007) Staying on the theme of Zords, Transformers is another high-budget blockbuster featuring giant robots. The franchise is also rooted in 80s and 90s nostalgia, making it a great choice for fans of classic Power Rangers. Transformers stars Shia LaBeouf as Sam Witwicky, a young man whose life is changed forever when he gets his first car. That car is actually an Autobot called Bumblebee. The Autobots are led by Optimus Prime, and they are at war with the Decepticons. Autobots and Decepticons can transform into vehicles or robots, making for some jaw-dropping moments. The Decepticons' presence on Earth threatens the human race, though they do have a different goal. Transformers is full of intense action set pieces and rebooted a classic franchise that's still going strong today. 6 The Incredibles (2004) The Incredibles offers a classic Pixar take on the superhero formula. It also explores the hidden-identity aspect of the Power Rangers in a new light, where we learn that the general public is actually tired of their heroic antics. Superheroes, or 'Supers,' are forced to hang up their costumes and capes, though Mr Incredible still craves the thrill of adventure. He takes missions in secret without telling his family, but a vengeful supervillain emerges, forcing the Parr family into conflict. The Parrs all have unique abilities, and they must work together to come out on top. The Incredibles offers a bright, colorful superhero story with a charming family dynamic at the heart of the adventure. Fans of the original will also likely enjoy the sequel, The Incredibles 2. 5 Sky High (2005) Sky High is a lesser-known live-action Disney movie set in a world where superhero powers are commonplace. Steve (Kurt Russell) and Josie (Kelly Preston) are two of the most powerful superheroes on the planet. However, their teenage son is struggling to live up to his family name. Will (Michael Angarano) is sent to a superhero school in the clouds called Sky High. The issue is that his powers are yet to be revealed, relegating him to 'sidekick' status. Will doesn't stay a sidekick for long, though a powerful villain emerges, and he must work together alongside other young heroes to tackle the threat. Fans of Power Rangers will enjoy Sky High for its teen drama and team forced to work together despite their differences. The movie is suitable for a young audience with subtle jokes for parents. 4 Mortal Kombat II (2026) Mortal Kombat II is the first R-rated movie on this list, so it won't be suitable for younger Power Rangers fans. That said, older fans will find a lot to enjoy, especially if the martial arts aspect is a highlight. The movie brings beloved video game characters to the silver screen, including Karl Urban as Johnny Cage. A fighting tournament for the fate of the world has begun, and Earthrealm's greatest warriors must battle the forces of Outworld. The movie is structured like a fighting tournament, and each combatant has unique powers. Shao Kahn (Martyn Ford) is a formidable antagonist and is willing to bend the rules in his favor. Mortal Kombat II is especially gory, but it's also full of lighthearted jokes and impressive fight scenes. 3 Guyver: Dark Hero (1994) Guyver: Dark Hero is the final R-rated movie on this list, but it is remarkable because it feels like a violent feature-length Power Rangers episode. David Hayter, who's legendary in the gaming space as the voice of Solid Snake, is Sean Barker. He owns a suit of alien bio-armor called the Guyver. Barker wears the suit to hunt Zoanoids, which are humans who can transform into monsters. The Chronos Corporation plans to make an army of Zoanoids, a plot Barker uncovers and vows to stop. Guyver: Dark Hero is surprisingly violent, with visceral fight scenes. The movie leans into its R-rating, and it wouldn't be the same without the brutal combat. Still, the Guyver suit aesthetic wouldn't look out of place in Power Rangers, and the movie resembles an episode of the show tailored for adults. 2 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) Power Rangers fans will find a lot to enjoy in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It's another classic kids franchise with a team of heroes standing against an intimidating villain. The Turtles are legendary in pop culture, and are even color-coded by their bandannas. The 2014 movie introduces us to the Turtles, who typically stay in the shadows. Our heroes are forced into action when Shredder (Tohoru Masamune), a fearsome crime lord, plots to unleash a dangerous toxin across New York City. They also team up with April O'Neil (Megan Fox), a reporter who is dragged into the fray during her investigation. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles shares many elements with Power Rangers, from its busy fight scenes and over-the-top villains to its mentor figure in Splinter. 1 Masters Of The Universe (2026) Masters of the Universe is another great example of a classic kids franchise rebooted. The 2026 film marks He-Man's return to the silver screen after nearly 40 years and stars Nicholas Galitzine as Adam. We first meet him stranded on Earth. By the time he returns to Eternia, it's a shadow of its former glory. Adam learns that Skeletor (Jared Leto) now rules Eternia, and he must harness the power of Greyskull to stop him. He-Man is undoubtedly a powerhouse, but he can't fight Skeletor's forces without his allies, and each has unique, fantastical powers. Masters of the Universe has much in common with the Power Rangers. Even the main villains, Skeletor and Evil-Lyn (Alison Brie), are somewhat similar to Lord Zedd and Rita Repulsa. That said, it's far from a carbon copy, offering a wonderful blend of sci-fi and fantasy with elements Power Rangers fans will still appreciate.
